Good value for Bright lightFor about a month, I have used 3 CMVision-IR200 units for night time surveillance of a construction site. During this time, outdoor temperatures have ranged from 0-45F. My units are installed under an eve, therefore protected from being directly exposed to the elements. These lights will cast light over 100' so they are perfect for my needs. If you are looking to light an area 50-200' away they are great. On the other hand, if you are looking to illuminate an area < 50' away they could be too narrow and/or too bright. The unit comes with a cord/connector (female) that is about 10" long, a power adapter that has about 6' of low voltage cord (male) and then a male adapter stub. The connectors supplied have no weather proofing so I would not trust them outside, even when sheltered they are bound to gather moisture, oxidize and fail. I opened the unit, clipped the wiring and made my connections inside the unit, ran 30' of low voltage wire inside, then clipped the connector on the power adapter and wire-nutted it all together. 5The light is excellent and would certainly rate 5 stars except for one ...The light is excellent and would certainly rate 5 stars except for one problem. The mount only allows movement up and down. There's no way to swivel the mount. I guess this is OK if you are able to mount under a ceiling. However, if you're forced to mount on a wall and need to swivel to light up the needed area, you can't use the mount. I was forced to use cable wraps to secure the light. The attached picture shows the problem I faced. If CMVision made the product available with a mount that allows one to swivel and adjust the height, I'd buy several more. 3Found diffusing film on eBay that makes this an AMAZING FLOOD LIGHT!!This light is most certainly a spotlight but I did some research and decided to try a plastic diffuser over the glass. The company I bought it from makes these plastic sheets of diffuser films that manipulate the lights in all kinds of ways. Their products are intended for photography but I figured I'd give it a shot. I purchased the following from eBay for around $20 "Lee 400 Lee Lux White Diffusion Lighting Gel Filter Sheet 21"x24". It's a 2ft sheet that I cut to slightly smaller than the glass (removed from the housing by one latch). A quick test without it and then with it was AMAZING. This light is now a truly super wide, evenly distributed floodlight. The 400 model of the diffusing film was, based on research, the most appropriate for what I was trying to accomplish. Don't be afraid of the spot effect anymore! The diffusing film is nothing short of amazing and one sheet is enough to do over 10 lights! 5The Big KaHoona !!This is the big Kahoona! This thing lights up the night for your cameras. I got a couple whipper snappers down the street that like to walk up the lawn about 10pm and drop an M80 in the street in front of my house. So far all I can get is a shadow of them on the corner as they turn and run back to their house that you can see across the street. I need them better lit up so the cops can see where they go next time and put them behind bars for a night. I'm tired of the nonsense. I believe next time I will have them. You can see the big kahoona on a post in the lower left corner. After it serves it's purpose it will be moved to a permanent mount in my driveway where another weasel has been coming after midnight to check car doors. I just need a little better pic of him too!!! 5While works well and is VERY bright IR source, DOES NOT INCLUDE 12 Volt "adapter" as described.I bought this product specifically because it said it had a "12-volt power adpater" meaning it could be plugged into 12-volt sources. Well, this is NOT the case. It has a 120 plug to a power supply that converts to 12 Volt output. It is not a 12-volt power adapter, it's a 120 to 12-volt power supply. The only reason I am not returning the product is I have an inverter in my vehicle I can use to still power the product. I am using this as an additional IR source for an IR scope for hunting.SO while it is a bright nicely made IR light, it is not provided with a 12-volt power adapter. It comes with a 120 plug and power supply. To use in your vehicle or away from the house, you will need an inverter from a 12-volt power supply to 120 volts back to 12 volts from the power supply. 3WOW! This light is bright! We use this with our Ring Stick-Up Cam which doesn't have enough illumination itself for adequate night video. This took care of that with it's incredibly bright light. It is a spot light not a flood. But, the illumination is invisible to the naked eye. The red glow some reviewers are referring to is the actual LED bulbs themselves You have to look directly at the light to see the red glow and it's very minor. There is no red glow cast onto the area of illumination. This is a big light. But, I had to order this one because the smaller one is only available in white and would stick out like a sore thumb on our dark stained exterior. Love it!UPDATE: I had to put a diffuser over the glass lens to dissipate the light. It was so bright that it created a hot spot so that whatever was showing up on our security cam at night was not discernible. It was like a very bright spot light. So, I bought some translucent shelf liner for about $3, cut a piece to fit over the lens, and now we have a very nice flood light with a much wider area of illumination. 5Great LightThe light only worked for about 5 months, I think water may have gotten in it but it was not the products fault as I changed the lens to a diffused filter. I did this same modification to my other CMvision light and it still works great after 1 year. Lights up the yard at night light daylight. Again, the failure of the light is probably my fault for not placing the seal back in properly after changing the lens. The light shoots a spot light and I wanted a broader spectrum. If you cut a piece of lens that are used in overhead fluorescent lights, there will be a wider span of light. There is a thick rubber gasket that seals out water on the inside of the fixture. I screwed up and since they run about $70, I will wait on buying a new one. The other CMvision fixtures I own are 5 star! Don't fiddle with it like I did and you will be happy with your purchase! 4Great Product for people with IR Security CamerasThis product lights up objects 400 - 500 feet away just like it claims. Attached photo shows how it is more of a 'spotlight' than a wide angle flood. You can see the two coyotes playing in the street 200' away, you can see the classic IR 'red eye' reflection in one coyote's eyes and you can see the edge ofthe Road/forest at 350' feet. A nice tight bright IR Floodlight. 5I expected more flood than spot. Take a look ...I expected more flood than spot. Take a look at the pic the shop is 100' from the Hikvision camera and light. 3Spot not Flood, but can be adjusted . . . see review.I installed this light yesterday and adjusted it last night. As stated by other viewers, it throws a narrow beam . . . a round spot rather than a flood.I measured the beam width and it is 38* horizontal and I assume vertical as well.So you can calculate your intended coverage to find if this light is suitable for your needs. (I used a transit, but you can get a good approximation with a simple drawing protractor by standing at the mounting location and checking your coverage at 38degrees.)It does have great distance partially due to the concentrated beam width and, of course, the number of LEDs.The view from my security camera is now a round spot in the middle of the screen with about 1/2 the area being dark. I will probably add a 2nd, broad beam, light to fill in the rest, even though a brighter center will remain. It does completely cover the intended target (my pole barn where my equipment is stored), but I would like it to give a broader coverage, therefore the intended addition of the 2nd light. I want the foreground illuminated also, so I can get rid of the wild hogs that come into the yard. The light hitting my pole barn (175ft away) is very bright, so I imagine it will perform pretty close to specs at the greater stated distances.Hope this helps in your decision making.Follow Up:If you want broader coverage from this light, purchase a cheap florescent fixture diffuser panel (approx. $2/$4) and cut a square the size of the present lens and replace the existing lens. Mount with the knobbeldy side out and it will widen the pattern significantly. 4
