Customer Reviews

Great product I purchased this plus the Kensington Car Mount for iPod with the long neck. I have a Prius and the Kensington just didn't fit the bill, but the Akron was amazing. I thought the little plastic pieces would easily break, but they've held up very well. Moreover, the mount allows me to position the Iphone very close so that I can use my Navigon app quite easily. All in all, the Akron is a five-star mount and I've tried 'em all. 5Works well in my Honda Element and Toyota Prius I bought this to put my iPhone in my field of view when using navigation apps. It mounts well to the vents on both of my cars and feels secure; it doesn't bounce around when driving and doesn't shift when adjusting the view angle. It was a little difficult removing it from the vents the first time. After I realized that I was pulling at the wrong angle, I was able to easily remove it.The adjustable supports on the bottom move out wide enough to accommodate an iPhone dock charger cable. My iPhone (which has a case on it) is held securely as well. In fact, I only had to set the side supports; I can put my phone in and out of it without having to readjust the sides each time but still have it held tightly. No complaints. 5Great car solution Using this car mount in a 2006 Ford Explorer. It mounts securely in the center vent. I have been using this daily for 4 months and have not had any problems. I have knocked it off a few times when grabbing my bag from the passenger seat, but it has taken the abuse well. The locking mechanism still is in working order like the first day I received it. The clips can be a little tricky to get perfect on the vent, but secure once in place. I find this to be at the perfect hand and sight in the Explorer. I did try it in a few rental cars and depending on vent locations, this could be a non-working mount in some vehicles. The adjustments for angles is very simple, and everything seems to be staying tight and in place so far. Depending on your vehicle, I would definitely suggest this mount. 4Decent option - fits my needs well Good product for Droid X -- doesn't cover any buttons or ports. And the ability to move this from car to car was the selling point for me -- I plan on using the nav system on my phone when I rent a car on vacation. How well this will work, though, depends on the kind of air vents in your car. Your air vent slats must be horizontal, and they must be fairly rigid to withstand a decent amount of weight. For example, it works great in our Dodge Caliber (in which only the vent slats rotate) but not very well in our Ford Explorer (in which the whole vent rolls up or down -- the weight of the device simply pulls the vent down). 4Not for a Prius IV Doesn't fit a Prius IV - had to give it away. Fits in a 4Runner. Strong product but only fits snug on skinny and short vents.Frustrated bc I tried to find a review on if it fit a Prius; one finally said it did, but the versions must be different. My IV is a 2010. 4easy to use, not easy to remove I purchased this car mount (on Amazon) last week for my new Droid, so that I can use its GPS feature. Dash mount and windshield mount versions wouldn't work well for me, so I found this one, a vent mount with the swiveling feature. It allows me to reposition the phone as needed based on the angle of the sun. It can be used for pretty much any smartphone, it's not specific to any make or model. Some mounts don't work well with cases, but this works just fine because you put the phone in the mount and then squeeze the sides until they fit your phone perfectly. Then I rotate it to landscape and I'm good to go. It doesn't block the mini-USB port so I can easily charge it (a must-have if using the battery-draining GPS feature). The only negative about this mount is the difficulty of removing the vent clips. This is due to the angled design of the horizontal vents in my car. I don't know if others would have that problem, and don't know how well it would work with vertical vents.UPDATE: When I sold the car and needed to remove the vent clips, I was unable to do so without breaking the clips. 3Gets the Job Done Please note the cradle is not the same as pictured on the website. The cradle shipped has 2 closed loops on the sides and it seems smaller. I bought it for my Motorola Droid. It seems a bit small, but it gets the job done. Mounting it to the vents is straight forward. I have a Subaru Forester and the vents can move up or down, so it's not very sturdy. However, I still prefer vent mount than having suction cup on the window since it's more discreet 4Vent grips wear out quickly My problem with this holder are the spring clips that hold the unit to the air vents. They're not really springs at all, but rather, plastic teeth that hold tension, and therefore grip. Well, that works for a few months, and then the clips lose their grip, and the whole unit falls to the floor when turning or from large bumps in the road. I even tried after a while to augment the clips with short pieces of rubber tubing. No help in the long run either. If they were true alligators, that would be better. Everything else about this mount is good. That's little consolation though. 1Doesn't work well with the Palm Pre Maybe it is just the air vents in my car, but this holder was not very secure. I have a Palm Pre and could not use the touchscreen on it without knocking this holder out of the air vent. It would hold the actual Pre well, but the clips weren't secure enough to stay clipped to the air vent. I would bump it slightly with my leg or arm, and one of the clips would slide out of the air vent. It could also just be my car, but I found it difficult to view the phone when mounted on my right driver side air vent, and I would bump it with my leg when mounted on the left side. The side arms cover a good part of the Pre charging port, so it is impossible to charge the Pre while driving unless you open the keyboard. I bought the Arkon friction mount and while it has the same problem of the mount side arms being in the way of the charging port, I am much happier with it. It is only $5 more and far more secure. Maybe this mount would be better for someone with a lighter phone. 3Love it I've tried the windshield kind but if you don't have something in it the thing rattles like crazy. This one doesn't. Goes on securely and the release button is easy to use with one finger. Other kinds I've needed to use use two hands. This one can swivel around with ease or you can tighten the knob in back to lock it in place. It holds my Zune or iphone securely with adjustable brackets on the bottom to leave room to hook up your charger. I don't think the stand feature works that great but that wasn't the wasn't what I bought it for. 5
