Excellent USB 3.0 Hub! I bought this USB 3.0 Hub because my All-In-One desktop only has 4 USB ports that are inconveniently located in the back. The design is an attractive silver and a green LED light underneath the ports to indicate that it is plugged into a USB port. Because I wanted to take advantage of the higher USB 3.0 speeds, I plugged this into an available USB 3.0 port and just set it just in front of the desktop as shown in the picture. The cable itself is only about 1.5 ft long, which could be a problem for some users, but for my purposes, it is just right.I have four USB flash drives, and plugged them into all four ports and Windows recognized all of them instantly with no problem at all. But these are all USB 2.0 drives, so I plugged in my Seagate Go Flex 2B external hard drive USB 3.0 into a port and I was definitely getting 3.0 speeds. Therefore, this Hub performs as advertised.LIKES4 USB 3.0 ports - no power adapter requiredAttractive designCable perfect lengthDISLIKESNot a dislike for me, but cable "might" be too short for some users 5My only complaint is that I didn t buy a bigger one! Picked this up to act as an extended bridge for my Mac setup. It was intended as a stopgap, temporary solution to a minor irritation, but it s performing so well I ve elected to leave it in as my permanent solution.I presently have a Wacom tablet, a Shuttle Express, a Nixeus Moda Pro Mechanical, & a Logitech 920 Webcam hooked into it, and all work (concurrently) without issue! To add another layer of complexity, IT, in turn, is hooked to a Belkin Thunderbolt 2 dock, which itself is hooked to my MacBook Pro. This means I have FOUR unique, otherwise-externally-unpowered input devices - each of which demands a fair degree of precision - hooked through this to a single (albeit, powered, USB 3) port with no apparent signal degredation!Just too keep it looking clean, I used a Velcro strip to hook to affix it to the back of a monitor, though this is no critique of its aesthetic; it looks like something that Cupertino would have shipped w/ pride. If I had to do it over again I d look for one w/ more ports, likely the 7 or 10, even if it DID mean having to power the hub too. Great buy for a remarkably reasonable price!TLDR Edition:Great, inexpensive hub that delivers precisely what it claims. Go for it. 5An alright USB bridge. Works well for the most part and has a good quality feel to it. Couple things I didn't like was the USB cord for it is super short and it will randomly turn off and back on. I have a light up keyboard and mouse hooked up and when I plug an external hard drive into it the hard drive doesn't power on or allow me to access it.------------------------------------------------------------------------Just a quick update I had customer service get ahold of me regarding the issue above. They did a really excellent job providing awesome customer service. The person was super nice and offered to send a replacement for a better bridge. I've changed this review from a 3 to a 5 as customer service really shined and got my devices working the way I wanted with a very prompt replacement. I would recommend if using an external hard drive to get their 7port bridge with power supply. 5Very solid, good performing, nice looking USB hub. Would like it in black. AUKEY USB Hub 4 Port, AluminiumI like surprises. This USB hub was a surprise. I have had USB hubs in the past, and while they were all fine and worked just like they were supposed too, this one brought a little more to the game. The Construction:This is where this hub went above and beyond. It is a solid aluminum outer shell, offset with white plastic side panels and usb sockets. The feel is tremendous. It feels solid, really solid. When a device feels this solid, even if it does not work any faster than any other devices, it still jumps up notches in your mind. I know that Amazon is full of this style of hub, by many manufacturers and if any are up to this quality, then you really have no fears in picking any like this. I can't attest to others quality, but this hub, is quality and workmanship. The edges are smooth, the finish even, no rattles when i give it a shake, and thoughtful large white gripper feet located on the bottom of it. When it is powered on there is a green LED indicator on the front of it. The LED is not bright and does not blind you in a night setting. The device is really color paired for a Imac or a macbook, but don't let that stop you from picking it up. I am using it with my flat black soft touch PC case, and guess what, it works just fine even with contrasting colors. Perhaps I could suggest to Aukey, if they haven't made one already is to make one of these and finish it black, with maybe blue or red trim. That would match most PC s.The Performance:The performance is on par with having the a usb 3.0 plugged directly into the computer's USB 3.0 port. Using this hub offers no degradation of signal or transfer speed. I wish I could give you more, but my last USB 3.0 drive somehow came up missing and I only am left with my sad 2.0 memory sticks. I will give you some benchmarks on that. It won't show you the speed of the 3.0 ports, but it will show that there is no speed difference when compared to the hub or plugging directly into the PC. For those of you nitpicking, yes the external usb drives did write a bit faster, but then it didn't maintain that speed. The PC maintain more of a constant write speed. So, everything evens out.The Conclusion:Yes, I know this is a short one compared to the ones I normally do, but what can I say? This is an exceptionally well built hub, it looks fantastic, and works like it should. It is a five star product and I highly recommend it. I will update as soon as I can replenish my stock of USB 3.0 usb drives. This product was provided to me free of charge from Aukey for the sole purpose of testing and writing and unbiased review. 5Great little device that does the job for my MacBook Pro Definitely a must for anyone needing more USB 3.0 ports. I use this on a MacBook Pro to assist with running multiple drives. Since my MacBook Pro has only 2 USB ports, I was stuck running backups a drive at a time. How I Use It:I use three external drives - one for photos and one for videos, and one for Time Machine. Using this hub I can operate the portable externals through the hub and the large external for backups through the laptop. Time Machine then backs up the hard drive and portables all at once. I haven't experience any significant slowdowns, even when charging the iPhone or other devices during the process.So...If you're looking for an affordable way to connect more drives or devices to your desktop or laptop, this is a good hub to start with. Note that I haven't tested it with heavy video editing directly from a connected drive, as I typically transfer active projects to the internal drive for the edit process. 5Updated Review - Aukey is the best! Update: After posting my review - which wasn't all that bad - Aukey customer service reached out with a suggestion for a different model that resolves my issues. Huge shout-out to Aukey. I don't think I've ever had a company reach out so quickly. They really bend over backwards to make it right! Top notch - best of the best.======================================Original Review:Ok. First off, it works. USB 3. On the plus side, slick design. Very attractive. Tilted forwards so you can see what you are plugging your device into? That's very nice. The total speed of the unit is 5mb/s. So reading or writing to one device at a time is perfect. But if you hook up multiple devices and try to access them all at the same time your speed will drop. It's not a powered hub so you can't realistically charge a modern cell phone on this thing but for hooking up an external drive it's perfect. I have two concerns. First the USB3 cord they provide is extra short. Possibly exactly what you want if you are using this with a laptop. Not ideal if you are using it with a desktop. If your desktop has USB3 it probably has lots of ports. The only reason for a hub is because your desktop is in some inconvenient place and you want to get some ports up on your desk. With a short cord that's a lot harder. Next beef. The USB cord to the PC is on the right. Obviously there's at least a 50/50 chance it's going to be on the wrong side for you. Since way more than half of us are right handed, there's a pretty good chance our mouse is on the right. You don't want your cord snaking out the right and over top of your mouse. It would be nice if this thing could be plugged in on either side or just the back (top?) but if you have to pick a side PICK THE LEFT SIDE! Overall I'd still say it's not a bad little hub for the price. 5That LED is too bright. I hate knocking it a star for something, because for the most part, I love this. But the LED was way too bright!!!Bright green light, glaring my vision if it was anywhere near me. A beam of green on the ceiling if the lights are turned out.I could have put tape or something over it, but with how pretty this hub is that seems a real shame. So I did what the manufacturer told me not to: I modified it. There's a gap I was able to get a razer blade into on the left side of the unit (assuming the ports are facing you) and peel off the white sticker. Got to the screws, unscrewed it. Saw the clear plastic piece leading from the LED on the circuit board up to the metal housing. Took my screwdriver, placed it on that plastic bit, a couple of taps later and it popped right out. I cut out a piece of cloudy packaging from some other product I purchased and taped it inside, covering the now empty hole.I screwed the metal piece back on, then added glue to the white piece, and covered it back up.The light is now still there, to confirm it's on and working, but greatly reduced in brightness, and it looks really slick. The main point I'm getting at here, if anyone at Aukey is listening: It seems a real shame to go to all that work of creating this wonderful looking aluminum hub, but making it so the light that indicates it has power is bright as a green sun. Look at how some companies manage to just do a single tiny hole with a subdued/diffused white dot, and how nice that looks? You'll often see that on more premium laptops. That's the level of sleekness I think this product deserves. Because the only thing that feels tacky about it is that light. If that would increase costs or difficulty to manufacture, at least consider doing something with the plastic that pulls the light the top to diffuse or dim it, and maybe use a red light, as the wavelength of red light tends to be less distracting, yet would still confirm to a user that the product is indeed powered on.Otherwise, it works as intended, is built very well, and is possibly my favorite USB hub that I've encountered to date. It's nice and heavy, so it's much easier to remove whatever is plugged in from the unit. 4Does not seem to work with multiple drives connected. Have been having trouble with this hub kicking drives out when I plug another one in. Just did a quick test with three Western Digital Easy Store drives and it would never connect all three at once. In fact, if I had one connected and plugged another in it would lose the original drive, and not eject it properly giving me a warning that it did so. So it does not seem that this hub will actually connect four devices, or even two reliably. It does little than make one USB port more accessible on your desktop instead of behind your computer.Edit:I received a replacement from AUKEY. The new unit seems to work so far, but I have discovered you should probably connect drives in a particular order on the unit itself. You have to go from right to left. If you go left to right or random insertion it can still kick out drives and give you the "not ejected properly" error notice. It doesn't do this every time, but it has still happened during testing of the new unit. 4Beware of prohibitive EMI problems! I'm not sure if I have a defective unit, but this device causes such a bad electromagnetic interference problem, when I plug it into the USB port it renders the computer I tried using it with (a new Mac Mini) nonfunctional. Specifically, the wifi radio is unable to connect to my network and my wireless keyboard/mouse becomes so sporadically responsive it's not usable. It's certainly this hub because when I unplug it while trying to use the mouse, the mouse immediately starts working when I remove it from the computer port. Very poorly engineered, or maybe mine is defective as I said. 1Convenient and Stylish USB Hub for my desk FINALLY I have plentiful and easy access to my USB ports. I had been in need of this for a while since (like most high end laptops these days) my lenovo Yoga 2 pro only has 2 USB ports! I had been doing without as much as I can and using wireless bluetooth products as much as I could but I missed a few things. Now whenever I need to plug in my phone or camera and move some pictures to my PC or just charge something I can do it from my desk without contorting around my external monitor setup. Performance was great, everything worked as expected - plug and play.I plugged it up to my laptop (it comes with a nice USB 3.0 Cord, the cord is around 22 inches long, which is long enough for me, but if you have a desktop or want to use it for something else you'll probably need a bigger USB 3 cord) and was able to transfer photos/videos from my Nexus 5 with no problems - speedy transfer. I also charged a few devices with it at the same time and none of them seemed to be throwing a fit - the usb hub handled it all flawlessly.Other than the functionality the design is great, if you have a mac or apple devices you'll love the silver finish - but I especially love it since my PC laptop is the exact same color so it matches my color schemes. All around top quality for the price. I was appreciative to be given an opportunity to test and review this usb hub complimentary for my honest and unbiased review. If you have a need for more USB (and who doesn't really), then this is definitely worth a look. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask if this review was helpful for you! 5
