Customer Reviews

Good organizer, great addition to Cocoon Grid-It Bags Grid-It organizers are great storage solutions for EDC gear, peripherals, office supplies, etc. This 12"x 8" has conveniently spaced elastic bands that hold a wide variety of items in a convenient way. The zippered pouch of the back is a nice addition and nearly extend the full dimensions of the case. This makes as a great storage solution for many, but may be a little thick for mobile users. Because the organizer is rigidly reinforced, the overall thickness is about 1/2". For some this may not be an issue, however when conserving space is minimalist packs, this may be a little on the thick side. This organizer also makes for a nice addition to Cocoon 15" Grid-It backpacks. With some velcro tape, this organizer easily fits and sticks to the exterior (door) flap on Cocoon backpacks which allows you to add an additional 60-70% Grid-It space to the Cocoon Grid-It backpacks. Makes for a nice modification is the included Grid-It space isn't enough. Despite a thick, heacy design, the Grid-It technology is excellent for everyday use. 4Super Useful This product is a very clever and useful item making organization simple and easy. Instead of having a pile of crap I have to sort through in my laptop case, I can now pull this out and take off what I need, instead of digging for gold everytime I need something. The size is perfect for my laptop bag, they have several sizes so be sure to measure and make sure of the size you need. My one piece of advice is make sure the items you put on here are TIGHT, it took me a while to realize the items have to be super tight or they get knocked off as you are taking the coccoon in and out of the bag. I was trying to be careful not to break the bands but don't worry they will take it, just get it tight! 4What's not to love about the Grid-It What's not to love about the Grid-It? It's easy to use, holds onto all your gadgets and other items securely and easily fits into a carry-on bag or backpack. I invested in this one to use during my travels, because I'm that tech person that brings multiple chargers, cables and battery packs wherever I go. It's easy to use this than just throw them in a Ziploc bag and dig through it when I need them. The elastic bands quickly snap back into place when you take items out without stretching, so you don't have to worry about it losing shape. The only issue I ran into, and this wasn't so much the product's fault, was getting stopped at a security check point at Denver International Airport because I left the Grid-It fully loaded in my laptop backpack. It apparently looked suspicious, so now I make sure to pull it out and put it on top of my backpack whenever I go through airport security. 5Good as a hanging organizer for cables, but disappointing travel functionality and weight This grid organizer seems to be a popular way of organizing your electronics. The size I ordered measures 8 1/2 x 12 1/4 ".Pros: As described, it consists of a set of interlocking bands. These allow for a good deal of flexibility for the devices you include - I can secure an external hard drive, but also cords.Cons: On the other hand, the bands are a bit loose, and as a consequence, items with more bulk like a mouse or some laptop power adapters fit into the bands, but easily fall out. There is a zip pocket on the back, but it is so tight to the board that you really can't fit anything in there except perhaps a sheet or two of folded paper, or some id cards. The board that is used to give it some stiffness is quite heavy for a tech case.Ultimately, this works ok hanging on my wall to organize cables, but if your priorities are organizing a variety of electronics, or having a lightweight carry bag for your digital nomadism, you might want to try something else. 3Greatly eased traveling and dealing with chargers, media, cables, etc. I'd been struggling with the number of chargers, cables, etc. I carry in my computer/messenger bag. I was using an old zippered pouch, but this lead to two problems:1. A jumble and tangle of cables and charges - if I just needed a cable, have to dig for the right one. In other words, annoying to get anything out without unpacking the whole thing.2. A big bulge in my messenger back - since everything settles in the pouch, it results in a wide bag that is more annoying to deal with on airplanes, etc. (and also less comfortable to carry). After spending way too much time researching (for such an inexpensive item), I ordered this one. (I probably could have gone one size larger since I'm carrying around a 15" MacBook Pro, but thought I'd start with this one.)I commonly carry:MacBook charger.4 port USB charger and its power cable.2 iOS Lightning Cables1 Mini-USB charging cableZagg 2 port batter packJockery battery packSanDisk Wireless Connect USB driveCan't have too much power on long flights when the plane doesn't have outlets - for shorter trips, I usually leave some of this at home - but may not anymore. All of these items fit neatly into the Grid-It and I can grab items from the top row (e.g., MacBook charger) without even removing it from my bag. On a recent long stay in the Detroit airport, I just hooked up my iPhone to the Jockery charger while it was still in the Grid-It and nestled in my bag. This has improved both of the issues I listed above - my bag is thinner and easier to handle and now it's very quick to grab the thing I need without digging through a pouch or untangling cables. The only negatives I could list (which are not worth deducting a star):-The pouch on the back seems relatively useless to me. Maybe I could store some wipes for my screens, a cloth, etc. I don't feel it's large enough to stuff paper into but I guess it would work for receipts and such. However, it doesn't take away from the product - just doesn't seem that useful to me.-It is a bit heavy even with nothing attached to it. However, it feels like the weight really comes from all the heavy duty elastic, so I would not trade durability for a little less weight.I'm really happy with the purchase. 5You won't regret buying this Not sure how I got along without this. As a nerd with all kinds of cords and accessories, this is so much better than every pocket and zipper in my backup or any other organizer I have ever used. The zip pocket on the back is perfect for things like stamps, a checkbook or other small pieces of paper that get lost or crumpled elsewhere. The thing which makes this so wonderful is the rubberized elastic grid. It keeps things from slipping around. And when I have to rotate items in or out, it's got so many options I can always find a way to get everything in. This is a truly well designed product that I would put in my top 20 essential things for a modern human to buy. 5So good that I bought 3! I'm an IT consultant and often on the road for work. When I first started consulting, I would simply shove all my cords, chargers, adapters, chrome cast etc into my travel bag. Several times I would forget items or even worse leave them in a hotel room because I couldn't quickly tell if I packed an item. I tried several other organizers including several cases and had similar problems. Grid-its are a great solution for the frequent traveler. You can simply glance at them to make sure you have everything you need before you leave a location. I use one grid-it for my most common travel items, chargers, cables etc and a second one when I visit a new client that includes adapters mouse etc. I've not misplaced a single item since I started using them. Before purchasing this item, I read the negative reviews. The main complaint is items falling out in your bag. Grid-its are not meant for one or two items. You need to stuff them full, the more you add the tighter they grip. 5Take my money,Grid-It. This product is filed under the "How did I live without this?" category for me. My biggest complaint with my work bags is that the pockets / organization compartments seem arbitrary and/or just not functional. I use a messenger bag with a laptop compartment or a backpack also with a laptop compartment. This 8"x10" Cocoon Grid-It is the perfect size for both. I was afraid it would either be too large or too small for my needs - It's always hard when you can't hold a product at a physical store... It fits perfectly in both bags and even provides a rigidness to my messenger bag. I am a teacher and use a fair amount of tech. I was able to put everything that was previously loose into the Grid-It. I have room for a a few more smaller items and haven't used the zipper compartment yet. My wife wants a smaller one to use for her cosmetics...I guess this would be perfect for that as well. 5Great product for travel or staying hyper organized I use this Grid It in my work laptop bag, and it easily fits my Apple headphones, lightning charging cable, USB wall charger, USB thumb drive and small battery pack. There is also a zippered pouch on the back that is handy for storing other smaller items or maybe loose change.I hate having things floating around loose in my bag, so this really helps to keep things organized and in their place. The straps seem like they might loosen over time, but I've been using this for a few months and that hasn't happened yet. This size is really useful for carrying smaller things, buts its usefulness is probably limited compared to the larger sizes. If you're looking to use this in a suitcase or backpack, go for a larger size. This size wouldn't be good for carrying camera or laptop accessories in addition to your phone or tablet cables/chargers, but if you just have 5-6 smaller items this would be fine. The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars is that the flat material inside (seems like it is probably cardboard) isn't as sturdy and inflexible as it should be. They should use something that doesn't bend quite as much. Other than that, it seems pretty well constructed. 4This thing is amazing, with one GIGANTIC flaw. I actually want to give this one star because of how bad this is, but I can't bring myself to do it. The unit itself does exactly what is advertised and does it amazingly well. But the pull zipper on the back is a MASSIVE deal breaker. I can't put my laptop in my bag with this organizer without it scratching it to hell. I have scratches all on my MacBook Air, and on my Kindle now, and I never had scratches before. Background info, I keep my stuff in a messenger bag. it doesn't have dividers, just one big pocket. If they could get rid of anything metallic to avoid scratches, I'd love the product, but until then, it's pretty much unusable unless I'm willing to ruin all my devices. 2
