Customer Reviews

Way better than similar. Excellent after 2 days of normal use. Negative reviews seem to be from people not familiar with how to handle tools, especially sharp ones. This is a tool which can be adjusted to your particular tension requirements. One must have a Torx driver of the correct size to adjust the through bolt tension to the desired level for your personal needs. The blade will then open with the ease you desire. The placement of the open bolt is a bit close to the pivot bolt so I had to make the tension less than I would normally have, but it works well when I push the blade open with my thumbnail. One review said they got their fingers into the "unprotected" blade. He must have "small hands". I'm 5'6" and my hands are not big, yet I have had no problems. I walked around with it much of the day just opening and closing it instead of fiddling with beads or similar. That was how I decided on the Torx setting. I also could not get my fingers in the way of the closed device. From factory it is quite sharp. However, I will need to use it for a period of time before deciding if deserves a 5, or demoted to a 3.Thus far, the WEIGHT and style are exactly what I want in a light but fully capable pocket knife. I have many knives as they are a hobby. If this holds an edge it will become my standard carry. 4With a little modification this knife is a winner Originally I didn't like the feel of this knife in my pocket because the thumb opener (which probably has a real name that I don't know) is large and pointy. When clipped to your pocket you can't reach in to get something else without scraping your hand. Later I realized that it could be removed and was really just screwed in through a hole drilled in the blade. Using two pairs of pliers I was able to break free the threads and it simply unscrewed from itself leaving a small hole passing through the blade. Now the knife seems much more compact and it doesn't scratch my hand when digging in my pocket. 5Its nice blade, couple design improvements could be made. Great buy for 12 bucks Nice blade size. Comes sharp, loses sharpness quicker than I would like, but I like using it for almost everything A quick hone and comes back to life..Locking mechanism could be better. It is difficult to operate one handed if medium or small sized hands. When sliding out, blade is hard to turn. Needs a little break in.Clip is great. The only con is that the locking mechanism paraframe style creates a gap where the clip is and you don't open the clip with the tip of your finger it will be difficult to slide into jeans or pants, it will kind of catch midstroke. You'll see what I mean and get used to it after few uses. 3which could delay or prevent quick and easy deployment in a defensive situation UPDATED JUNE 1, 2015 Now that this knife has spent some time in my pocket and seen three months of use I have upgraded my rating from 1 to 4 stars. The finish shows no wear at all on the blade or handle, with just a tiny bit on the belt/pocket clip, despite daily carry in a front pocket with coins. The edge has remained sharp with routine use opening boxes, letters and cutting various things. The thumb opening loosened slightly after my modification but not so much that you have to worry about it accidentally opening in your pocket. Occasionally a smaller coin will log between the blade and handle but is no big deal.NOT FOR EVERY DAY CARRY OUT OF THE PACKAGE. What is the point of an EDC knife that is mechanically incapable of quickly opening with the flick of your thumb? Well that is how some Gerber engineer designed this little gem of frustration, with a small nub on the end of the spring/lock that fits into a corresponding hole on the butt of the blade. This Nub-of-Death, which could delay or prevent quick and easy deployment in a defensive situation, is also a pain in the posterior to remove. I had to split a wooden shim in half, slide it through the frame and tap it into place to hold the spring/lock open, then with my smallest Dremel grinding wheel eradicate the little beastie. It immediately worked as intended but still needs a few weeks to break in.(I hope)ON THE OTHER HAND....if you have all the time in the world to open the knife I must say it positively locks open, has a nice blade for day-to-day light duty tasks, looks badass, feels nice in the hand and has a great finish (at least so far it doesn't appear to scratch easily carried in a front jeans pocket with change/coins). 4Good EDC Knife Not as big as i expected. I already have this model so i should have read the dimensions better. Still a good EDC knife. Easy one handed opening and sharp right out the box. Own several Gerber knives and i have not had an issue with the quality. Stays sharp and it's fairly easy to sharpen with a stone or rod. The serration are sharp and adequate. Keep in mind i do use it for general every day use. Don't expect to cut your way out of an airplane fuselage or trek the Appalachian trail carrying only the knife and a bag of trail mix. This is a light utility knife and in that role it excels 4Great edc! You know, I really do like this knife. In fact, I own two of them, a fine edge and a half serrated model. Both work well. They fit my hand well and feel good in the hand. Neither of mine operated all that smoothly out of the box. I still can t flick them open quickly, but they open better now. The frame lock is quite sturdy. The only thing I would change is the thumbstuds. They are too big, stick out too far, and tear up my thumb if I open the knife too often in one day. I could take a dremel to them, but I have better things to do. The pocket clip is quite strong, and I have zero complaints with it. I might advise clumsy people to avoid this knife. It is possible to cut yourself inadvertently due to the skeletonized nature of the knife s frame. A little care and common sense should help most people avoid this, however. I haven t had any incidents with cutting myself while the knife is clipped to my pocket. The knife arrived quite sharp and good to go. There are no bells and whistles on this knife. No jimping, no assisted opening, average Chinese steel. But you know what? I don t need anything fancy for an edc blade. This knife does what it is supposed to do: it cuts and locks up well. For about $11, this knife is a good deal. Both of mine should last for years. 5Good knife, hard to clip onto anything I really like the look and feel of this knife. It's good quality and I've had one for years so I bought another one.My only complaint with it is that the metal under the clip (the springy clip that you can use to clip the knife onto your pocket or a Molle loop) is right over a piece of metal that doesn't connect all the way from the back of the handle to the front of the handle. On the side of the handle without the clip, that is just a metal bar all the way across. On the side with the clip, it stops right under the clip. So every time I try to use that clip, the metal under it snags on something. Why doesn't it simply mirror the other side? If it did, the problem would be fixed. Makes no sense to me.But other than the clip issue, great knife and it looks killer. 4Good for the price but annoying to carry and not very durable. This knife is pretty good but not great, for the 20 or so bucks it is definately worth it but a few things.Pros:-Very sharp out of the package. I immediately cut myself taking it out of the package because it was so sharp. I could shave with it out of the package.-Light and slim. I chose this knive to replace a bulky leatherman I was tired of carrying in my pocket. This knife is slim to stay out of the way in your pocket and light enough where you don't really notice carrying it.Cons:-Carrying it in my pocket got old quickly as if I ever had coins in the same pocket they would get stuck in the holes in the frame making it hard to use sometimes when I needed to. It clips to the pocket pretty well though.-Durability. It wasn't long before I noticed a wobble in the blade probably a month and I didn't use it super hard just cutting things that needed to be cut every once in a while but I carried it daily. When I went to tighten the screw the head snapped off. Luckily the screw did tighten first so It didn't have a wobble, but the blade wouldn't open properly. I super what was left of the screw in place to try and keep it from loosening up and that worked for quite some time.I am currently looking for a replacement after a year of using this knife. 3Poorly designed. Buy something else. The knife is hard to open and really hard to close. The frame lock was only partially seating, so I had to use a file to get it to fully lock. Despite using high quality torx drivers, one of the frame screws stripped out. Pretty disappointed because I thought Gerber was supposed to make quality products. Spend your money elsewhere. 1Great value for the price I bought this to replace my EDC work knife. It's compact, lightweight and reasonably priced. I chose the titanium coated look because I wanted the least expensive Gerber I could get since it's going to be abused on the job. My primary use is to cut zip ties and it's up to task. The blade was sharp enough for my use straight out of the package. The blade tension is just right for me but there is a torx screw if I need to tighten it down the road. I chose the smooth blade over serrated because it's easier to sharpen. I like it and will buy again if I lose it or it grows legs. 5
