Customer Reviews

Seem too thin but I wasn t sure if these were going to be as good as I thought. They arrived well packaged and that was a good sign. But as I removed then from the protective packaging and held them in my hand, i thought no way are these going to protect my ears. Took them to the indoor firing range the next day, and brought along some cheap yellow foam ear inserts, just in case. I was wrong about these. They really surpressed the sound from the gun blasts, even from other shooters in the range. Except for the guy with the Desert Eagle hand cannon, I could feel the pressure in my entire body when that shooter was firing. But these ear protectors really work and continued to unload the Sig with no issues of any uncomfortable loud gun noise. Though they are not going to cut out the noise 100%, they provided the necessary ear protection needed. 5Ultra Compact, Super Light Weight Solution to Unwanted Noises The lateral profile of these earmuffs are so sleek they never even come close to interfering with those AR crane stocks that practically hugs your cheek. When it is folded, it is a mere 3.5" x 3" x 4". Because of that, you leave it in your backpack, then before you know it, you slowly discover how this earmuff can be used in your daily life outside the range:Noisy housemate who invite 50 people to party until 4AM the night before my big interview? Put this on, problem solved. Yep, the lateral profile is SO SLEEK I don't even notice it pressing against my pillow. THAT's how thin this thing is.Want to take 30 minutes on the train to take a nap, but the girl behind you just won't stop forcing her phone conversation to everybody? Rip this thing out, pop it on, problem solved. Trust me, the instance you pop this on you head, EVERYBODY on the train will look at you, look at each other, nod, and whisper: "that's hella smart!"Time to use your loud lawn mower? Grass cutter? Sanding machine? Gas engine snow blower? You will thank yourself for getting this earmuff. Every single time. For $17, I acquired complete control of every single unwanted noise, wherever I go. Worth the price for sure. 5So good I bought them again! I bought these earmuffs for use at work. I worked in a loud lab in a small room where dB levels during full operation exceeded well over 100 for a sustained amount of time. The earmuffs are are super light and very low profile. This is exactly what I was going of. I had to wear glasses while wearing the earmuffs as well and, while that did reduce how effective the noise reduction was, it was still overall sufficient to protect my hearing. I wore these earmuffs for 4 years every day in a disgusting lab and even after all that time, they still have only minor wear. None of the padding has cracked (merely faded and become slightly depressed). After 4 years I thought it was time for an upgrade and repurchased this same pair of earmuffs. For a less that $25 investment you get a durable, well made, lightweight, and low profile earmuff, while still offering a more than adequate amount of noise reduction. 5Great for students! (also good for air travel) I'm a pre-med college student and I hate studying with distracting noises around (TV, chitchat, music, etc.), but I can't always get away from the noise so I got these and they are WONDERFUL. I also use them over my earbuds while flying and I don't hear anything but my music or movie. Anything that blocks out the sound of those poor crying babies on an airplane is worth its weight in gold!**NOISE REDUCTION: These do a VERY good job at reducing noise but they do not eliminate 100% of the sounds around me, so I use them on top of Hearos Ear Plugs Xtreme Protection, 14-Pair Foam (Pack of 3) or on top of earbuds and it eliminates all but the loudest sounds. I could faintly hear someone yelling in the same room as me, but it would be almost inaudible in the next room. I can easily sit in the living room and study while my husband watches the television.**COMFORT: These are a tiny bit snug, but I think that is necessary to block out the sound and they are not so snug that they are uncomfortable. I honestly think that I have a somewhat large head size (hat size approximately 7 3/8 if that helps), so the snugness might be more of a "me" problem. They never catch in my hair and I can wear my normal stud earrings without any issues, although larger hoop earrings would probably be uncomfortable. I don't have any issues wearing these over foam earplugs, and they easily go over earbuds so I can listen to music.**DESIGN: I love that these fold up so compactly. When folded, I can keep my ear plugs or headphones inside the ear cups and they stay so tight that I know it won't open up and let anything fall out. I love how low-profile these are compared to some other models, I don't feel silly wearing them on a plane or at the library (unlike some of the bulky, bright colored ear muffs), in fact, they could almost pass for larger size headphones that are currently so popular. These are pretty straightforward to adjust if you take a minute to look and they stay at that adjustment well. The ear cups come off for cleaning, which is nice.**VALUE: You can't beat these. I almost put down over $200 on Bose noise cancelling headphones and I am so glad I tried these first. I highly recommend these. 5Perfect for listening to a media player in loud traffic If you're looking for the best sound-proofing you can get, this is not it. But they are not intended to be that. They are intended to be light, comfortable, and low profile, while doing a decent job of noise-reduction in an average environment. As for the low-profile, they excel. With the thin ear pads and black color, they are about as unobtrusive as can be made. They have a comfortable spring, fitting snugly without being too tight.I use them when I go out for a walk. I like to listen to audio books while out for a walk but the traffic is so loud, I have to turn up the volume of the player to hear it. Traffic is very annoying, especially when an ambulance goes by, which is all too frequent. If I turn my player up loud enough to drown out traffic, what kind of damage am I doing to my ears? These muffs provide the perfect solution. They fit comfortably over my earphones and mask the traffic enough that I can hear the soft-spoken readers. I can set the volume at the same level as when I am at home and still hear every word. I can hear the traffic well enough that cars don't sneak up on me in places where I must walk in the street but sirens are effectively toned down.I have another pair of muffs for serious sound reduction but for traffic and audio books, these are just the ticket. 4Excellent performance for a reasonable price These earmuffs are easy to use, and, they decrease loud noises to safe, comfortable levels. I am an audiologist who also likes to cook using power blenders and food processors that produce noise well above safe noise exposure levels. These earmuffs are the best solution I have found for quick placement over the ears with excellent comfort when used for extended periods. They are an excellent gift for others as they are reasonably priced and have been quite durable. 5Great performance for the price, just know what you are buying and you will be happy I was looking for a low profile, lightweight, folding compact ear muff to use at the gun range, and low and behold I found it on Amazon.Other reviewers complain that the fit is tight... well yeah it's only common sense that it has a tighter fit because 1) it is lighter than other big heavy ear muffs(like Peltor), and 2) the low profile ear pieces aren't as deep as other ear muffs so it needs to put more pressure on your head so that it seals the sound out effectively. Sure, it doesn't suppress the gun shots as much as the Peltor Ultimate 10 which has a NRR of 30, but what do you expect for having folding earmuffs that weigh 3.2 ounces less(the Peltor Ultimate 10 is 11.2 ounces)? They work fine with my Radians Revelation Protective Shooting Glasses... some other reviewers complain that wearing shooting glasses with these muffs will let sound into the seal around the ear. Well, sorry to bust your bubble but any ear muff will suffer a little bit if wearing shooting glasses with them. I use Radians Revelation Protective Shooting Glasses and they work extremely well with these L0F earmuffs, I just angle the ear pieces up 30 degrees so they are not resting on my ears... instead they are up on the side of my head and not interfering with the ear muffs. Perfect!Another added benefit of these ear muffs is that they will not interfere with the stock of your rifle when looking down the sights because of their low profile. Any other big ear muffs will interfere for sure. For their design and price, these Howard Leight ear muffs are excellent! Just know what you are buying so you don't expect the same performance of a larger, bulkier ear muff. 5This is great. I read a review of this product where the person used it on a train to block out another rider's phone conversation. That caught my attention. I work in an active office with plenty of conversations going on. Sometimes it gets to be a bit much. So, I was looking or a way to block or dampen the noise. The stumbling block is that I did not want headphones with active noise cancellation (batteries), or headphones that were big and bulky (difficult to travel with.)These fit the bill. Small and compact, yet do the job.I also have a home office and was able to test them before going to the office. My son likes to play video games when I am trying to concentrate. Normally, I use my Bose headset to listen to music. I disconnect the Bose and just use the noise cancellation when I need to rest a bit.I substituted the Howard Leight headphones for the Bose while resting. These headphones performed as good or better than the Bose for normal conversation and "action sounds." Low bass sounds could still get through, but even those were muffled.Love it. Highly recommended. 5I was also disappointed because when returned I was looking for sound cancelling, or close to sound cancelling, ear muffs to wear at work. I work in a room with 7 other colleagues and am unable to concentrate with so much background noise. Unfortunately, these did not fit the bill, so they were returned. I was also disappointed because when returned, I did not get the full price I paid for them. 1Not a Good Fit, Something has changed with newer model... *** UPDATE 9/2/15 Original Review below changed from 2 to 4 stars. A commenter said to pull the cups and i yanked them pretty hard and they actually moved a bit down. Fits like the older one I have now.**First off...something has changed. I have this exact model from 2 years ago and it fits great. This one does not.. which doesn't make any sense. They either changed something or a bunch of us received defective models.Likes: Really lightweight Compact design Comfortable (even though they don t fit right)Concerns:I must be in the 1% club here with these as they really do not fit right. Either we all have a weird shaped head or i'm missing something here .especially with all the positive reviews. There is no size adjustment.. The cups are just on a normal swivel and the headband portion doesn't adjust They stay slightly open on the bottom. Similar to others in the 1 and 2 ratings they just don t seal on my ears properly to be effective. The older model has no problem with this..The Bottom Line:Two stars from me as they do not work as intended. I have to squeeze them on my head to get the proper noise reduction otherwise they are probably reducing by 5 decibels if that. I would caution you on these but I guess worth a try as long as you can send them back for free. Hope this helps. 4
