They have been developed to offer more capacity and better performance to meet the growing needs of new, increasingly data-intensive applications, as well as increasingly shorter backup windows. IBM LTO Ultrium-7 tapes can store up to 6TB of uncompressed data and 15TB of data with a compression ratio of 2.5. They always support the LTFS file system which allows the tape to behave like a hard drive and also WORM technology for archiving purposes.
