Customer Reviews

Really nice! I used this drain assembly in a very nice heavy gauge stainless bar sink in my recent basement remodel and it looks great. The unit is very solid, it fits the drain perfectly, and the finish is very nice (its a matte stainless finish). The "Power Ball" thing is nice because it makes the drain sit centered and level even when it is not sealed, making for a really nice finished look. I'm very happy with this purchase! 5CAUTION! Check dimensions / clearances for your installation before ordering! An installation nightmare. If you have a deep sink basin and/or have a dishwasher this probably won't work. The overall height of this fixture from the sink basin flange to the end of the threaded tube (where the tailpiece attaches) is almost four inches. Most kitchen drain fixtures are 2 3/4 inches max. This means that the lower portion of the P trap (the part that attaches to the tail piece) may end up too low to attach to the compression fitting on the upper elbow of the P trap (the part that goes into the wall - and you ain't gonna be able to lower that, unless you tear out your cabinet and wall!). This is especially true if you need to use a tailpiece that has a dishwasher tee fitting, which makes everything extend even lower. If you go to Keeney Manufacturing's website you will see that this model has been discontinued (for good reason, since it has very limited applications).I did like the locking shell installation (easier than the standard locking ring), the all-stainless construction (the whole reason I had to replace my drains is because the "satin nickel" finish wore off of the old ones, exposing the ugly brass body), and the "snap post" strainer basket. However, (presumably) due to the snap post design, there are only two holes in the part the basket locks into, so you can't use a drain wrench designed for the standard four holes to keep the drain body from turning while you tighten the nut. I do see that Keeney no longer makes a snap post, so maybe there were issues with this or problems or with durability of the snap. I recommend the Keeney 1443SS instead - 2 3/4 inches overall length, locking shell design, "fixed post" basket. 1Very well built and very functional I just bought this to go with my new Moen sink that I bought from Amazon. This strainer looks and works great! The color is identical to the lip of the Waste King garbage disposal. So they both look like they came installed from the factory with the sink! The powerball design is great, and when properly seated, it doesn't tilt or wiggle about like most other strainers in this price range.I highly recommend this sink strainer for its sharp looks and utilitarian functionality. 5Beautiful Design and very well made Just replaced one of my kitchen sink drains with this unit I purchased from my local Lowe's. I was considering installing a disposal for the other side (twin basin sink) but desided against it for now so I went back to Lowe's to pickup another one. And I must have purchased the last one... they didn't have any or know where to find them.As it happens often I click through to Amazon and do a search and there it is! The same exact item (modem # and all) and for $1.50 less with free shipping via my Prime membership! On to the item itself. It is very well made and easy to install. Make sure you grab some plumber's putty and install it correctly. My previous drain did not have putty installed and that explains the leaking and utter mess it was making under my cabinet! The coolest part of this drain is the Power Ball Basket. Basically it can sit perfectly centered (no wobble) in the drain about 1/2" above the hole. It has a very nice rubber gasket on the bottom of the basket and to stop the water you simply press it down. The gasket is made of softer better quality rubber than other's I've seen. And this makes for an excellent seal. Also this drain is extra deep so it will be able to hold a lot of debris if you are prepping food or washing dishes. If you are buying a new stainless steel sink or just need to replace some cheapo or worn out drains, this is the one to get! 5Good fit I just needed the strainer basket and buying the entire unit was the only way to do so. The basket fits perfectly in my old sink. 5Keeney SS Deep Cup Sink Strainer After remodeling my kitchen with granite counter-tops and a under-mount SS sink I wanted a new sink strainer to match, I chose this one because of the deep basket and the power-ball sealing function of the strainer, it seals so easy and does not leak with a simple push of the basket. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a new sink strainer. 5great drain! i love how the basket sits in the drain and then to plug it all you have to do is push it down - satisfies my neat freak side (i hate having a separate plug that sits around when not in use). feels really solid and matches great with our new stainless steel sink. hoping it stands the test of time! 5Great Value I'm in a rental with a double SS sink in the kitchen. I found some wet items under the sink, and discovered that the nut on one of the drains had just snapped into 3 pieces and the drain basket was loose. Finding a replacement nut was impossible, so I had to buy a replacement drain. I offered to fix it for cost, but I wanted to try and reuse the tail pipe and the other hardware, so I was looking for a new drain that looked to be similar. This looked to be about the same, and the reviews were positive, so I ordered it. It's a very nice piece, feels and looks like good quality, especially for the bargain price. Unlike what one of the other reviewers found, I think the drain nut is pretty heavy duty, and it tighten down nicely. The report of rust concerned me, but it was only mentioned once, so I'll not about worry it (plus, I'll be gone in less than a year). The install was easy, all the other hardware was reusable, and in like 10 minutes, the sink was good to go. I'd recommend it and would buy it again. One tip is I'd recommend using plumber's putty that is new, or very close to it. It dries out fast is storage, and it being soft and moist can make the difference between a leak and a dry installation (and at around $2.50 per can, it's a no brainer). 5Beautiful design but the stainless steel rusts. Bought this a little over a year ago as one of the many little details of a kitchen remodel.Product works well, much better design that any strainer/basket I have had before. The ugly downside is that in a little more than a year of use, there is visible rust on the underside of the basket and as well as in the drain itself. And as luck would have it, the manufacturer's warranty is limited to a year!Beware! 2Elegant design yielding reliable function and pleasing aesthetics Keeney 1434SS Deep Cup Sink Strainer with Power Ball Basket, Stainless Steel:Elegant design yielding reliable function and pleasing aestheticsThe Keeney 1434SS is not cheaply made. For example, the threads at the bottom of the strainer are cut into the tube rather than pressed into the tube. Cut threads benefit the design with a stronger connection to the Outlet Tee under the strainer. Also the inner surface of the tube is smooth leaving no crevices for solids or liquids to cling to which reduces corrosion thereby extending the life of this Keeney sink strainer. It also allows for a thicker pipe. I mention this because my previous sink strainer had pressed threads with the thread texture on the inside as well as on the outside of the strainer's bottom. Several holes formed on the pressed threads causing our leak and premature failure. The install was relatively easy once I found the correct outlet tee. We have a sears garbage disposal which was one of the limiting factors in outlet tee selection. The Keeney 125AWK Plastic End Outlet Tee and Tailpiece 1-1/2" Direct Connect was the only one that perfectly fit in the available space. I found that outlet tee at that gray and blue big box hardware store. Our Keeney 1434SS has been in for over six months working reliably and my wife likes it. 5
