They are top-of-the-line, and made in America.5Garbage Quality This is a disgrace to the name of Kennedy, it is made out out very thing steel, front drawer on my unit did not close porperly and required a scredriver to pry it open and the paint had scartches / scuff marks even though the packing box / materiqal had no damage. I have a 40 year old Kennedy and it is a the quality is totally different, this one didnt even last a day without problems. Save your money buy a craftsmen or some other inexpensive brand with better quality, sad we can no longer count on brand names and made in USA quality. 1Cheap disappointment I had wanted one of these for years. What a disappointment! It s very cheaply made, comparable in quality with Stack-on and similar low-cost alternatives. On arrival, the door that is supposed to cover the drawers was bent way out of shape, probably damage sustained in transit as a result of the cheap, inadequate packaging. On the same door there is supposed to be a ball detent to hold it in place against the frame; it was there, but in the wrong whole (there are three, one for the detent in the center, two on the sides for rods that locck it from above). As to the layout, it s pretty useless. I was hoping to keep my measuring and layout tools in it, my indicators, and perhaps the bulk of my machining tools. The size of the drawers makes this impossible. The top center drawer is meant to hold the Machinery s Handbook, but would need about an extra inch to do so. If you are willing to dump your valuable tools in the drawers without any cases this might be for you. If you keep your tools in their cases nothing will fit in this very disappointing chest. This thing was designed at the beginning of the 20th century and has remained unchanged, except for the unacceptable manufacturing quality. 2Five Starsgreat value5Rough Start, Happy Ending Receiving the product was a bit of a nightmare... Received the incorrect toolbox twice, and one of them was pretty severely damaged upon arrival (there was no damage to exterior packaging, but the entire front panel of the toolbox was smashed in). With that said, the third box I received was flawless. My only real complaints, if I had to find something wrong with it, is that I wish it had ball-bearing slides, and that the metal used for the box is rather thin. Having said that, it is still a very stout box, the slides are incredibly smooth for friction slides, and the box itself seems extremely well built. It is designed for machinists, so it fits my tools (files, mics, calipers, etc) and their carrying cases perfectly. At the time I purchased it, Amazon's price for this box was a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the next closest retailer I could find, so that was an added bonus. Would definitely recommend it. Have a little patience, and your end result will be well worth it. 5Worth the extra bucks. At first I bought a Craftsman tool chest, but it was too big, the paint looked cheap, and the drawers weren't lined. I had used Kennedy at work, so I paid the extra bucks and got the quality I was expecting. A solid tool chest which I know will last for a lifetime.5Four Stars great toolbox had to fix a rail that was loose but works just fine now. 4All is good! Kahn Tools replaced the defective chest with another in perfect condition and I'm very happy with it. The chest comes up short of my expectations. It looks good and has a nice finish. I like the way it is organzed with the machinest in mind. That said, it doesn't work as designed. My chest has a quality inspection sticker signed by Mark S. Rhodenbaugh and he failed to do his job. The lid is misaligned and doesn't close properly. The drawer cover doesn't function without much effort. The drawer cover has a spring loaded ball which is supposed to hold the cover closed while the lid is lowered. It is worthless. The cover will not stay closed and keeps popping out. The spring loaded pins which secure the cover when the lid is lowered do not align properly. One pin will only fit if I use two hands to line up the hole and the pin. When I go to open the box, it is very difficult to distort the upper box to release the pin allowing the drawer cover to be removed. For the money I spent on this thing, I could have bought three cheap Chinese boxes, lined the drawers myself, and had more storage. I won't be moving the box much so I'll live with the inability to lock it up easily.I like having an American made box on my bench. The Kennedy sticker with the made in U.S.A. looks good but keeps falling off. They must have used Chinese glue to secure it.All in all, if the people in Ohio don't get their act together, this item will be overtaken by the Asians. 5Perfect for Small ToolsI use this inside my motorhome. It sits right behind the passenger seat and it has been great for organizing my tools. My larger tools fit in one of the storage bays but all of my smaller tools go right here ready for any job. For a truck or motorhome this is a great size and it has a cover that locks in place over all drawers for security. Lacking however is a way to attach it to the floor of the motorhome. If the bottom drawer was removable and had 4 holes for mounting bolts it would be a big improvement otherwise someone could just steal the whole thing with ease.5Sorta flimsyKinda flimsy for the price.. I like the multiple compartments, but you can tell the profit margins are pretty high on this one.3Great machinist tool box!Fantastic tool box! Fits perfectly on the end of my Versa cart, fit and finish are great, everything works as expected and the felt liner is a great feature.5I'm kind of disappointed by the quality of this productI'm kind of disappointed by the quality of this product. It's not as sturdy as my dads old one and actually feels pretty flimsy. It has some damage just from shipping (see pictures below), and the drawer slides are not smooth and tight like they used to be made. Why is it that everything is made so cheaply now and no one seems to value quality anymore. I was really hoping i would like this more for what I paid. I will be looking at the used market for my future Kennedy boxes if I don't find a better alternative.2The box all machinists want to have As a young guy I envied the older machinists in the shop with their Kennedy boxes, as I wheeled about my beat up Craftsman box. Now, after decades out of the trade I wanted to set up a home machine shop, and what better way to store fine Starrett tools but in a Kennedy tool box? I don't know if it is the same quality as those I remember from my youth, and I notice that the drawers are shaky if you pull them from one of the side pulls, but that's not a big deal. Now for the fun part: filling it up with machinist tools. And what goes in that odd shaped center drawer? Machinery's Handbook, of course. 5Works great. HoweverJust what I expected. Works great. However, it's full and I need another addition for more tools.5Five StarsVery high quality product.5Five StarsPerfect for the small stuff!! 5
