GREAT PS4 STORAGE! and how to install below Perfect for PS4 and an easy install.I used this video and if I can install this, you can toohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8K_SpOZuIwHowever! When you go to https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/system-updates/ps4/DO NOT download the update because an update isn't the softwareYOU HAVE TO go to the bottom of the page to the section: (photo attached)PERFORM A NEW INSTALLATION OF THE SYSTEM SOFTWAREGo a few bullets down and there's a DOWNLOAD NOW tabThen use a thumb drive of 1 gb or more, format to FAT (most thumbs drives are usually formatted this way) and make folders: PS4 (inside that) UPDATE and put the file in thereREMEMBER: If you don't backup anything, you're basically starting brand new with a more storage.PROS: If you install from discs, it is now fasterCONS: just realize your game saves will not be there if you don't cloud save or backupENJOY! 5Perfect for PS4 Would be nicer if they had a 7200RPM model. For those of you with PS4s. 2TB is the largest you can install, if you intend to enable any of rest mode features. Go any higher and you will suffer drive corruption. This drive is perfect for full compatibility. The technical reasons why 2TB is the limit on PS4s: The PS4 firmware is based on the FreeBSD kernel, and is quite capable of handling even larger sized hard drives (6TB no problem). This is what its main AMD APU processor runs. However, that's not where the problem lies. When the PS4 is in Rest mode, it's ARM secondary (low power) processor (the same kind of processor in most phones and tablets) is handling downloads and disk writing. It's only able to handle drives no larger than 2TB. This is why larger drives get corruption when using rest mode. So if you want the full capability of your PS4, with rest mode, but the largest storage capacity possible, then this drive is it. 4ps4 drive It works with ps4 no rigging involved. It gets a bit confusing though on how to make your ps4 work, the update file of playstation.com doesn't work at least not the 300mb one.First come first get a usb drive save your games by using the settings option on your ps4, Now the important stuff plug in the usb drive once you are done saving your data it will create two Folders on your USB drive one PS4 and inside that SAVEDATA you will need to manually create the other folder and name it UPDATE. Save your complete software 900mb from playstation.com in the UPDATE folder then set your ps4 in Safe Mode by holding the power button for 7seconds or until you hear the second beep than wait. By the way when you start the ps4 in safe mode have the USB connected. After all that chose the option listed in the website to reinstall the complete software than log in to your ps account and install all your games and you can start using the ps4 in regular mode more info on playstation website. 5On the fence. So far it's done its job...but it makes some kind of weird beeping noise that has me worried. I used this for my PS4 Pro because I couldn't find the HGST brand on Amazon anymore. I was hesitant to go with Seagate.edit: 5/21/17 as i feared, the hard drive did fail. it happened about 20 minutes ago. looked up warranty info through seagate and they do not warranty this hard drive because it is sold through OEM. seagate refers me back to seller. i may be stuck with a dead hard drive at this point. i will contact amazon and see if they will help me. this drive is sold through 3rd party and only shipped by amazon so i fear the worst. rating reduced to 1 star. 1PS4 ON STEROIDS! First off guys let me tell you the problem I had and hopefully this will save you some time and headache. I install the drive with no problems! You don't have to be an expert to install this thing. Then it was time to install the firmware and this is where I had trouble. I found out from digging on line that there are two files one is just an update file and the other is a lager file that you use when you are replacing the harddrive. Both files can be found on sonys web site. I downloaded the lager file for the new harddrive and proceded to put the ps4 in safe mode for the firmware install. I scrolled down to the last options [initalize ps4(reinstall system software.) got an error saying 2.03 could not be found. I did some trouble shooting made sure the screws in the harddrive were not to tight , made sure the usb drive was fat32 formated, and made sure it was pused in all the way. After several attempts I was about to give up and send the drive back! I gave it one more try and did some more research online. Found this out to my suprize that the firmeware that was on Sonys site was out of date! This you will not know if you go to sonys page. I found the 2.03 file on reddit! You can get this file from Sony also if you contact them and have it emailed to you. After I got the correct file it worked like a charm! Since I installed the new drive my ps4 is on steroids! Got a nice performance boost and tons of storage! 5Like a got a new PS4 (BUT SAVE EVERYTHING BEFORE THE TRANSFER!!) When I first got this thing and I was ready to install it in my PS4, I realized all the problems that could arise... Like what's gunna happen to all my games and game saves and trophies etc. seeing as how I'm 30 hours into the witcher 3, this definitely concerned me. Make sure you back up everything you can onto an external hard drive and I mean EVERYTHING. If you can download it onto your cloud storage do that too if you can. Click on your trophies and save them to the cloud, you'll thank me later. Once you do that insert your exHD to your computer and make a folder called PS4 and then inside that folder make another one called UPGRADE. This is the folder where you download the newest firmware (complete version, not update) from Sony's website. You HAVE to do this otherwise it won't work. I found this out after googling a million things. In fact just google all the steps you have to take... Long story short IT WORKS! You have to upload all your previous game saves and stuff from the exHD as well as re downloading all the games you had downloaded onto your PS4 but it works like I just bought a brand new PS4 and it's awesome. 5For those interested in upgrading their ps4 hard drive: Yes - This hard drive is compatible with the ps4. Installation of the hard drive was quick and easy, but I ran into many error messages(CE-30774-1) when reinitializing the firmware. Here are a couple of tips I picked up from various websites while I contemplated throwing my "bricked" ps4 out the window..1) Don't over tighten the screws holding the hard drive into the ps4. Too tight might cause an issue for some reason....2) Make sure you are downloading the correct firmware(~707mb as of July 26, 2014) from the Playstation site.3) Format your usb drive to FAT32. This is the default setting, but good to know...4) Make sure to push the usb drive all the way into the ps4. I had to firmly push it in. This is also good to know...5) When starting your ps4 in safe mode for the first time. Hold the power button down for 7 seconds and you'll hear two beeps. You'll see 7 options. You're selecting option "7".6) If your ps4 doesn't work... Start over, reformat your usb drive, download the firmware, and use the other usb port when connecting to your ps4. This is actually what I endured after (3) unsuccessful attempts.Hope this helped someone and not many people have the sam experience I had. On a side note, my friend could not get this hard drive to work on his ps4... He installed a 1.5tb hard drive and it worked first try... 5Perfect Internal Drive for Playstation 4 Slim, Super Easy to Install I bought this internal hard drive to swap a Playstation 4 Slim 500GB drive, and it works perfectly fine. The changing of the drive was extremely easy (idiot proof indeed, as I have heard someone on youtube call it ...). You need this hard drive, a screwdriver, and a USB flash drive. I used SanDisk Ultra CZ48 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Transfer Speeds Up To 100MB/s-SDCZ48-016G-UAM46, which is an add-on item that I added to the purchase of the Seagate drive. Bear in mind the SanDisk flash drive is already formatted as FAT32, so technically it is just ready to work. However, for whatever reason, I did not work for me, so I reformatted to FAT it using the Disk Utility (I just took me an extra 30 seconds of my time). There are many sites online to instruct you on how to swat the drive of your PS4. All of them tell you the same, and as I said above, it is very very simple. With the PS4 the process is even simpler because the console has a special design for accessing the hard drive (it is in the back right, you just have to slide it off ... I'd recommend you watch a youtube video). After changing the drive, the most important part is the installation of the software. Again, follow the instructions online, and carry on. It was very simple for me, and it worked. All in all, it took me about 30 minutes or less.Once everything was completed, I checked the storage of my PS4 and I have 1.77 TB (of course it is not going to be 2 TB flat ... because the disk needs space for 'invisible' stuff).I can't talk about the durability or reliability of the drive because I just got it today. I have used Seagate in the past with no problems. Fingers crossed it will last!I hope you found this review helpful.Bottomline: PERFECT DRIVE FOR PS4 SLIM 5Served its purpose This year I purchased a PS4 and recently became concerned of running out of Gigs on the stock 500 GB hard drive on my PS4.I have some current pre ordered games(Fallout 4 coming out soon) so I bought this hard drive as an upgrade. I don't think I'll go over 2TB. If I do, uh-oh.I read multiple articles and seen a couple videos concerning the process of backing up your PS4, switching out the hard drives, and installing PS4 firmware update, then the internet "taking a beating" to install digital games and game updates. I started to get nervous after several authors and video commentators declared their lack of faith in the PS plus cloud drive and recommended manually backup their PS4 with a flash drive or backup external hard drive. Ok, I thought, I'll trust their recommendation until I ran into a problem, my external hard drives I have, aren't compatible with the PS4. In order for me to full fill this task of backing up games manually, I would have to use my 128 GB flash drive to fill with backup data until full; then I'd have to take the full flash drive and transfer the backup data on to my computer and repeat this task until I fully backed up my PS4 data. I decided against this process and put all my faith into the PS plus cloud drive. I checked first if my data(games, saves) was actually backed up into the cloud drive and it was all there. Then I switched out the hard drives, turned the PS4 on and accessed safe mode to install the firmware update(the playstation website has instrustion on how to download the firmware update) via flash drive. The firmware installed with no errors. All I had to do next was sign into my PS plus account and install all my games(install the games first and then you can download your saves). It takes awhile but I left the PS4 on rest mode all night so the updates install. Good investment. 5Great pairing for Collective Minds 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure XBOX ONE Perfect secondary drive for XBOX ONE. There is no other choice, really. It's not worth it to get a smaller drive that will fill up and cause hassle down the road by needing to replace it AGAIN. Does not need external power, only an adapter/enclosure to USBIt has the added benefit of fitting perfectly in the Collective Minds 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure. It looks like the setup was made for the XBOX ONE.Microsoft should have had this pairing available OEM. It is that good. Do not question it! Buy this and the Collective Minds 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure, and be done with it forever! If you are a parent, I cannot stress this enough. Buy the pair, get it going, and wipe your hands of the whole "I'm running out of hard drive space" for a very very very long time. Now, if your kid (or you!) has a TON of movies, etc, then maybe an external powered drive is a better solution. However, if it is just for gaming, it is a no brainer. 5
