Excellent water-tight cap So let's say you have a weather-proof micro four thirds lens, and you're concerned about the lack of weather sealing on the "stock" rear lens cap -- then, this is the item for you. It's built solidly, has an O-ring on the face that connects to the lens. This'll complete my lens' protection when I travel in wet weather / locales. 5No longer made correctly for Leica. These caps are no longer made well. I ordered two and my lenses would not properly screw into them. I bought one years ago that was amazing. I then ordered two more that were terrible. They need to fix quality control. 1Great caps, very sloppy packaging -- beware! So, I was minding my own business, hopping rock to rock with my camera bag over a river, and came to a dead end. The high water made that path impassible without getting wet. So I backtracked. On the last big hope, I passed my balance test perfectly, nailing the landing... but tragically, failed my physics test, not noting that the combination of forward momentum and slime-induced low friction surfaces would keep me going... into the drink. The result was a killed Olympus Pen-F camera -- not even weatherproof. But tragically, also an Olympus M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO lens, which was weatherproof and in the bag, with an end cap on. My conclusions: the standard end caps don't provide a good enough seal. And so I found these. They work very well in sealing against your lens. I'd advise, as with all water resistant things, to occasionally add a smear of silicon grease to the O-ring, but otherwise, a good deal.So now, on to what I don't like about these. I ordered several caps, first a pair of the single and dual caps, then, once having proven them worthy, I ordered three more of each. I opened 'em up, brought them to my photo gear corner, and gradually started using them. It was only when I realized that I had trouble getting one off that I saw the problem: out of eight caps I ordered, two were sent for the wrong camera. And it was months before I discovered that, indeed, I had a single cap for a Fujifilm X-Mount and a dual cap for a Sony E-Mount. I had ordered only M43 mount caps.So while I can recommend the caps themselves, they seem to be packaged and shipped by crazed orangutans. Should you order any of these, do inspect them very, very carefully before assuming you have the correct cap. Don't trust the packaging, either, as both of mine indicated the correct cap on the packaging. But there's a little white sticker in each cap that reveals its true, and possibly alien, nature. 3Finally I replaced a lost one If you have a DSLR (or SLR) and carry a lens (or more) with you on shoots this is "almost" as good as having a third hand. The idea is you use it on the end of the lens that is NOT being used instead of a regular end-cap.When you are swapping lenses, take off the one on the camera and attach it to the spare lens (back-to-back or rear-to-rear). Then release the spare lens and now you are ready to put it in the camera. If you keep the camera around your neck while you do this, you can swap lens while walking or standing around without resting one of the lenses. With practice you will swap lenses very quickly.Of course you can also use when traveling or carrying your lenses (what it was probably designed for).I lost my old (with a lens that developed legs) so I bought TWO to replace it. 5A nice concept, but the Sony E-mount version doesn't quite ... A nice concept, but the Sony E-mount version doesn't quite have the dimensions right. It's too loose, won't lock tightly onto the lenses (especially my Rokinons). Disappointing because it's really useful in the camera bag, but I can't trust it to stay on and have to keep checking it. 3A Large Cap that works Beautifully for the larger Leica Lenses! Leica excels at making small high quality optics for the M system. This cap is definitely larger than the equivalent Leica cap. Some of the Leica lenses are larger (Noctilux, some Summilux) and for these lenses a larger rear cap makes the lens easier to handle. The cap has a larger diameter, and the edges are nice to grip with the big lenses, sort of an extra handle. In addition these caps are tighter and feel more secure when placed on the lens, I would not hesitate to pick up the lens by this rear cap, something I would not do with the Leica cap fearing it will twist and the lens would drop. Improvements could be made, similar to my Nikon Optec cap these have a raised index mark but it is difficult to see and blends into the rest of the cap, the simple addition of a red dot would make the process of placement and removal much easier. 5 stars for a good product. 5Built like a tank. This thing is large. It is about the same diameter as my 50mm/f1.2 lens, or roughly double the diameter of the M mount itself. With a big lens, this is great... with a small lens, it works fine, but maybe is a little comically large. The fit is very secure. Adding a red dot would help with alignment - though there is a plastic "nubbin" intended to serve this purpose, it just doesn't feel intuitive to line up based on that when every other piece of photographic equipment I've ever used marks alignment with a red dot. 4Awesome upgrade over standard cap! I found a couple of these at a camera stores "out of business sale" and decided to try them out - price was right! They're a nice rubberized-feeling cap and feel very strong (especially compared to the standard caps on Canon lenses). The only problem is that they're a bit tough to get onto the lens (similar to connecting a lens to a camera, it needs to be lined up in a certain way). Once you get past that, it makes a very solid connection (due to the O-ring inside). While it may seem unnecessary, it definitely feels more protective over the Canon (or Sigma/Tokina/Rokinon caps).I've bought 5 of these now for my "good" lenses. They're a bit pricey and hard to justify for lenses like the Kit lens. If you're in the market to get new caps (lost them? broke them?) this is a great buy. I had my original caps but wanted an upgrade for a more secure feel and found it worth it (despite the somewhat high price). I can't say if the O-Rings and rubber actually do any good.. I've never had problems with the Canon caps (some 3rd parties are a bit hard to connect the caps, canon's usually go on easily).EDIT: A complaint after receiving this latest batch - the lenscaps now include a white sticker (seen on product photo) stuck to the inside of the cap. This is a very low-quality (seemingly done on a home-printer) sticker with the brand name and which mount it's for (Nikon, Canon, etc..).The problem here is that this is where the bottom of your lens site. The obvious solution is to remove this, but the stickers are stuck on so tightly that residue is left throughout the bottom of the cap (where the lens would sit). The only thing I was able to use to remove this was Goo-Gone (and then washing the lens cap thoroughly afterwards). It's a long process that shouldn't be necessary - unfortunately it seems to be the new way of producing this lens cap though. 5Perfect companion to my DA* lenses I could never understand why they sell weatherproof, dustproof lenses, and then put a lousy cap on the back. This weather sealed cap is so much better! The double-sided caps are great, too, but I use those on my small primes rather than my large DA* lenses. Those things barely fit in my bag as it is, putting two of them together would be a bit ridiculous. :)The Pentax 15mm Limited and 40mm XS lenses plus the double sided cap are still smaller than every other lens in my bag, and my wife doesn't protest putting them in her purse when it's warm enough that I can't put them in a jacket pocket :) 5A superior product to the caps that came with the lens I really like these lens caps. They are much better than the cheapo ones that came with my lenses. Why Canon/Nikon doesn't uses caps similar ones to these is a mystery to me. If you are going to spend serious money on top-level glass, why not protect them with good durable caps for under $10 each? I like the o-rings these caps come with, it really helps to keep dust off the rear element. Also, they are made from a more durable grade of plastic (ABS I think). I also like that the cover the entire rear-end of the lens, protecting the not just the glass, but the mount itself.I just wish OP/TECH made body caps as well. 5
