Big and Bulky I was looking for a ceiling mount for a small ViewSonics projector. I thought that this "universal" mount would do the trick. I worked for a long time to attach the projector to the mount. Finally I gave up and returned the ceiling mount to Amazon. The problem was that the projector is small and light, with three holes for the attachment screws that are relatively close together (in a triangle). The big, heavy-duty arms on this attachment unit are just too big; there was no way I could attach three (of the four) arms to the three holes. This appears to be a very well-made, heavy duty ceiling attachment unit. It probably would be great for a 10 pound, big projector. But it does not work for a little 5 pound projector. Be forewarned, also, that a universal unit such as this one probably will not hang the projector at its center of gravity, which may create further problems for leveling the picture (I never got far enough to check this). In the future, if I buy a ceiling mount, I will look for one made to fit the specific projector I have. In this case, we decided to go with a small glass wall shelf instead. 222 pounds? It can't even properly hold 10% of that. I bought this mount for a cheap Epson 800x600SVGA projector for an video installation/art exhibition. The mount, with it's bar extended, is just as sturdy as a $17 projector mount is expected to be. Once you string cables and such, and if your projector is less than center-weighted on it's mounting points, you are asking for slow creep away from your adjustments.Bottom line: I had to use string attached to a nail to keep the projector from slowly tipping downward against it's own measly 2.5 or so pounds.I stripped a screw trying to tighten it to just keep it from slipping on it's own.Stop and ask yourself if it's possible to have a well-made, Prime-shipped $17 projector mount that is supposed to hold a delicate piece of technology from crashing to the floor, and supped to be sturdy enough to keep a projector from wobbling about and shifting off the screen?I'll answer it for you: no. 1Projector Mount Great mount. I had no stud near where i needed to mount it so i mounted a small peice of thin plywood to a winged light fixture mount and mounted it to that. worked like a charm.I just didnt trust Anchors in sheetrock hanging form my ceiling but the winged screw light fixture mounting plate solved my delima. 5Worked Very Well This worked great for mounting the projector on a standard ceiling. I like that the extension bar is optional. In my case, it would have made the mount too low. But for some mounts, you would want the extension. Great flexibility. Easy to adjust and stays in place once you have it aligned where you want it. Also seems like heavy-duty construction. 5Nice Mount For The Money This is a nice mount for the money however be aware it does not hold its position very well. If you are mounting in a basement or with a floor above the mount, it is bound to be jostled out of position. We must constantly adjust our geometry to get it back in shape on the screen. The quality is nice though and it was easy to install. 3okay mount Good sturdy mount. Was a little difficult to assemble but once you figure it out your okay. Not the most stylish mount but obviously for the price your not buying form, just function, and it does function well. Recommend. 4Great with additional hardware or if mounted into wood or concrete. OK, the unit works really well, BUT the screws supplied are way too big for the anchors, so they just twist a big hole in the sheetrock. (granted, it is only 1/2" rock.) Once I went to wallyworld and got some toggle bolts, the unit is stuck to the ceiling and shows no sign of coming loose, even with the cheap sheetrock (i made sure to have two of them hook onto a metal stud, just in case.) 4Sent it back Maybe I was doing something wrong, but from what I could tell I didn't see a way you could mount the projector and tighten down the angle while it was mounted. The nut is right in the center underneath. You'd have to get an 'idea' with it loose. Dismount the projector from the mount itself, tighten it down and remount. It was black anyway and I was going to paint it white (there is no white option). Just ended up going with a ball and clamp speaker mount that attached to the center of an aluminum plate I made, that specifically mounts to the projector. There are examples of this on Amazon from the more model specific projector mounts that are as low as $40 - $60. Only black of course. Basically I just copied the same design, and used a speaker mount. Very low clearance, very white, and very pleased, especially with cost (only $20 after shipping). From other reviews I've read, universal mounts just aren't the way to go.Edit: noticed the latest comment that said 'no tilt' It's sort of correct. The tilt is there, you just have to adjust it with the projector OFF of the mount (which really defeats the purpose). If the Tilt screw is tight and you mount the projector to it, then in a sense, there IS NO TILT. Also, I believe the commenter when he said mechanically inclined individuals couldn't make it work. I was not looking forward to figuring out how to actually get it mounted after briefly analyzing the parts, but because of my realization with the tilt, I never actually got to that step. 2Could be better This is a nice mount. Well built and fairly easy to mount to the ceiling. The major issue is that it is not as "universal" as it would lead you to believe. I ended up having to modify the mounting bracket to get it to work with projector but all in all, it's a decent deal. 3solid has full articulation to help point your projector in the exact angle you need. don't buy anything that doesn't articulate and move in up/down,left/right, and at an angle - otherwise you will need to mount your projector exactly center/ level/ at the perfect angle. this mount removes a lot of guesswork and is easy to line up the picture with the screen / area as long as your mounting position is fairly close.TIP: Turn your projector on, point it where you want to project it as it would be mounted (by holding it above your head) and try to remember or mark that area to mount it in - so you get a good idea of where on the wall or ceiling you need to mount it 5
