Customer Reviews

Initial Impression is Very GoodI just received the X2HR headphones and my initial thoughts are that they easily meet my expectation for build quality, sound and value. The reviews that I read before ordering these were very favorable by a wide margin, so my expectations were quite high.I was looking for a new set of open back headphones to add to my current collection. I have Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's, AKG K701's and Sony MDR-1A's. All are excellent headphones and all have their own sound and qualities. These H2HR's are a solid build, with aluminium, leather and steel, instead of plastic. They have large 50mm drivers, comfortable velvet earpads and a full/realistic sound across the spectrum. They have a good soundstage and are very comfortable. So far, I'm very pleased with them and at the current price, they represent an amazing value.5Better sound quality than the 9500's (more bottom end), but are slightly less comfortable. If you have a big dome like me you may need to stretch the headband a bit. Quality is excellent and the ear cups are nice. They are plenty comfortable. When compared to the Philips 9500's I have, they're a little less comfortable (those things I could leave on my head all day and night with the huge over sized earpads and slack band) but they're fine after some use. These feel much more well made being aluminum and leather. Sound wise; they're very similar with the open back design. The highs are similar, but these have a much fuller mid and bottom end. They sound fine with a phone or normal aux output, but sound even better with a headphone amp. The 9500's are my main point of comparason as my other headphones are closed and have a totally different sound. This style is definitely my preference when I'm at home listening to music, movies\tv or even gaming with a boompro. In public or at work I use closed headphones.5Poor manufacturing. Poor Quality control.I bought these. When they came the seal on the Philips box was broken.I tried to ignore it.I put these cans on, and the left channel was dead!I should have gone with my better judgement before hand; NEVER buy anything made in China!1Great sound quality, cool, comfortable fit for extended wear.I just bought these to replace a pair of V-MODA headphones I bought and immediately regretted for a few reasons.Right out of the box these Philips Fidelio X2/HRs feel amazing! No pressure on my ears or head whatsoever. The v-modas required an aftermarket ear pad for me to wear them for longer than 10 minutes without extreme pain.If you spend this much on a pair of cans they should feel and sound amazing, and these X2s definitely do!The open back design really O-P-E-N-S the sound stage up! Also the open air design keeps my ears cool for longer listening sessions. The headphone have amazing recreation of surround sound and great depth and clarity. If anything they seem to be a bit etheral in the high end but I guess that's what you get when the industry standard for high res audio just calls for speakers being able to reproduce sounds up to 40,000khz...One downside and the only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because these headphones can definitely accept a standard microphone cable for handsfree phone calls and gaming but the only cable included is a straight audio cord... And its really long... Like 10ft! It really gets tangled and caught on stuff, and I feel they should have included at least one 'normal' lenght one (4'?) with a microphone and handsfree button like some pairs of cheaper headphones I've purchased in the past. (My House of Marley Liberate XLBTs came with 2 handsfree cords and a replacement straight braided, the V-MODA cross-fades had an audio cable and hand free cord...)Fortunately for me I had purchased the separate boom mic from V-MODA that plugs right into the X2s conveniently common 3.5mm audio jack located on the left earphone.I actually have seen this exact setup recommended on a gaming headphone subreddit, and I can attest to it's strengths in that department.4Fun, comfortable, great soundingI love these headphones. If you have an amp that can play these headphones to their full potential, you will get better results. Otherwise they will play okay, but lower volume on phones or devices that have a regular audio jack that isn't HIFI audio. For gaming, the game environment are large and expansive because of the large soundstage. Explosions are big and booming because of the bass.Music is fun and these are my preferred headphones at the moment.5Your sound problems are partly your EQ"THEY'RE TOO SHAAAAAAARP" or "THEY'RE TOO MID-FORWAAAAARD." Sound familiar? Those are the people that don't set an EQ or don't know how to. Tune something to suit your ears and you'll keep its general sound signature while taming some of its problems. Are these a bit sharp and mid-forward? Yeah. That's kind of their thing. Drop your highest frequencies (in the 20K+ range) and drop the mids some and they sound fine. Boost the bass to shake your head a bit and you still won't drown them out, cause any distortion, or muddy anything. These headphones REALLY like EQs. Will the sound source make a difference? Yeah. Of course it will. A sound card (I use an Audigy Rx) or separate DAC will obviously sound better when you do that than using onboard audio. But they'll still sound fine either way.My only real issue with these is how hard they clamp on your head. They're not going anywhere. Positive for some, a bit annoying for people with glasses (like me).5Great can but I returned them...This is an excellent can for the money. I bought them 1 year ago for over 300 bucks and ended up returning them because I couldn't get over the cost. They were also slightly heavy and just not right for me.Bought them again for 150 which is an excellent price relative to the sound they produce, ultimately I returned them again because, first, my bass oriented Superlux EVO come a little too close to these in sound sig. they aren't as good sounding but for 40 bucks they just get a little too close. My DT990 sound superior IMHO and are also bass oriented so they fill that spot in my collection. The final straw was a slight connection issue in the cable that sealed the deal on the return. If you do not have a bass oriented can like the EVO or DT990 go for them as they do sound very good.Amazon, as always was excellent and that's why I consistently buy from them.4Best headphone under 300 price tagI'm not what you would call an audiophile but I've come to appreciate what headphones can do after owning m50xs and ATH 700x. I would say that these headphone fit edm/ rap music best. The Bass is very nice and punchy and doesn't at all muddy the sound. The only con that I can think about would be the ear pads which are a bit stiff but I assume It'll un-stiffen after a 1 month use. These are built like a tank, as far I've seen there's no plastic on the outside and I think these actually use real leather instead of the normal pleather that most headphone companies use. I don't think there is anything even close to the quality of this headphone under the 300$ price range. Most people seem to put these only under the sennheiser 600 which is 300$. For gaming I would say these are great thanks to the sound stage and imaging.5Best headset I've owned in about 15 years of trying to find a good sound for my PCYou WILL need a DAC and AMP to use these with your PC, but the end result is well worth it. These things sound incredible. Upgraded from an Audio Technica ATH-MSR7 to these bad boys and never looked back. They're so comfortable you'll forget you're wearing them too, which is always a plus.AMP/DAC recommendation is Shiit's Magni+Modi combo by the way. Well priced, small company, and does wonders for this set.5Outstanding CansI bought these to go with my Astell and Kern SE 100 and glad I did. Definitely made the right choice. The sound stage awesome. Highs and mids wonderfully pronounced. Bass is just right. I can hear all the details like I never had before. Just outstanding cans. Update!!! owning these for couple months paired with my Astell & Kern Se100 they simply shine. The detail is just simply awesome. I tried a few high end cans and keep coming back to to these. I simply love them. Who ever tuned these knew what they were doing. In the end the ears win.5
