A great tripod head! This is a great tripod head. I use it with my Giottos YTL9314 tripod and a Canon T2i. The friction adjustments really do a very good job of replicating the smooth feel of an adjustable fluid head. Great for simple video pan and tilts. Way better for video than a standard photography tripod head. My only complaint is that the knobs are a bit clunky. They do not retract or fold, but can be unscrewed. I use this head with a very flexible tripod and sometimes the knobs get in the way when arranged at some positions, but in general, if you are using this with a regular upright tripod (as I assume most people would) you will have no trouble at all 5awesome I bought this as a gift for an amateur photographer. This is well-built, light weight, and full of features. One is the bubble level that allows you to perfectly align the camera with the horizon. This is important if you want to repeat shots from the same spot, for example... one picture per day for a year to show change of seasons or construction progress. I also like the large diameter rubber grips. This makes it easy to make adjustments and lock it down. 5Great head for light to medium duty This is a great head for light to medium duty applications. I use it for a still camera, video, and for a 18-inch (well-balanced) telescope.Stability is good, and video panning is smooth; even though you can't change the 'drag' (resistance) of the panning motion. The round base, where it attaches to the tripod, is about 7/8 inches...somewhat smaller than the head that I'm replacing. But it's great for my applications. As an installation tip, when setting it up on a tripod, it will be necessary to tighten the head's base onto the tripod with pliers or channel locks. If you don't tighten it, it will come loose when panning to the left, resulting in a wobble. This is a super head for the money. In fact, when considering price, it's a 5-star item. 4A Well Made Head Robust and well made, this tripod head performs as expected. A 3 way pan head is useful for such applications as Milky Way photography. Aiming a camera at night is tricky and this type of head allows corrections in one axis at a time to home in on the subject after viewing your last shot. With a ball head you're back to zero every time you loosen the camera. I use a ball head for daytime shooting where it tends to be quicker. Some pan heads adjust in just 2 directions rather than 3. That forces you to adjust the tripod legs to level the camera. Not so with this head. 5Better off getting a higher end "real" fluid head with one handle This head is very confusing or perhaps it just doesn't work as designed. There are two long handle controls and two micro knobs that are supposed to provide specific horizontal and vertical movements. When I twist the micro knobs I can't feel any change in resistance in either direction. I've tried every hand lever combination and movement possible. The only way to increase or decrease the resistance is by twisting the long handles. However, when you want to loosen the resistance you untighten one of the handles which causes "play" or a wobble effect when you move the handle, which may cause you to jerk the camera when you initially pan left or right. Same with the vertical motion. If you get everything dialed in perfectly you can lock everything down, but if you want to change any angles you have to re-loosen and adjust which is not as effortless as I thought it would be. I purchased the Slik 700DX legs only and this "fake" fluid head which is also made by Slik. I should have saved my sixty-nine dollars and went with the standard head that comes with the 700DX for an additional $39 (save $30). To be honest the best bet is to just purchase the Slik 700DX tripod legs only (awesome tripod) and pay $120 for the Manfrotto 502 head. If I did that, my search for the ultimate tripod and fluid head would be over. Now I am still in the market for a new fluid head because my 2 week old fake fluid head mount is not functional enough to keep. Knowledge is key. 2I love it but it broke after a few months. I love it but it broke after a few months. I guess I will just buy another one. I guess you get what you pay for. 4Nice for the price Considering this as a compact panning head, it is smooth, secure, and easy to mount my cameras. I put it on my Slik Sprint Pro GM and my large Joby Gorilla Pod. Makes a really nice platform to shoot video and photos from my point and shoots and dslr in video mode when zooming and panning. Nicely packaged and really fast delivery from Prime/Gabrian's Gigabargain. Very impressed with this, as a compact head. Thanks! 5Worked nicely Shipping and product as advertised. Quality product and great communication 5Great product, bubble level is beautiful! Got this to replace my 30 year old Slik tripod head after which the plastic quick release plate broke. Not Slik's fault, I ham fisted the quick release knob and caused the incident. Was going to buy a whole new tripod but decided to keep my 3 decade old Slik and just replace the head. This head is so sturdy I'm able to use my Rolleiflex camera and it holds it as good as the custom plate Rollei makes you use to protect the bottom film door. Also, holds my Barska 8.5lb 20 x 80 long range binoculars very stable. The pan and tilt is incredibly smooth and the build quality is typical Slik!I've never owned anything but Slik and never will! 5Functional, smaller than expected I wanted a low-cost pan head, and this does what I need it to do. I didn't realize exactly how small it was. I'm sure it meets the listed specs, but if I had seen it in person I wouldn't have bought it. Its compact size makes it a bit unpractical for some applications. It is just sort of unwieldy with everything being so close togetherDon't misunderstand - it is everything the listing says it is. 4
