Customer Reviews

Excellent Value and No Coasters I originally bought a 50-pack way back on December 14, 2011 from Amazon and then recently (2 months ago) I ran low so I ordered another 50-pack for historical archiving and presentation purposes mainly.I have and use two Pioneer BD-RW / CD-R / DVD -/+ R, DVD-RW computer drives and a similar Lite-On computer drive. In all these years of using the drives, I have not had one coaster (disc) that burned improperly due to a disc fault. They worked exactly the way they should and have been also accessible (readable and / or playable) on other drives and / or players other than drives mentioned above that created and burned the data to the discs. So compatibility across multiple devices has been robust for almost 10 years now of using this product -- burn after burn.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! 5Verbatim produces reliable DVD-R disks that can be used for most data storage needs. I needed an alternative to the TDK DVD-R disks that I used for several years. The reason for the switch was not because I was unhappy with TDK disks because TDK disks worked flawlessly. Instead, I was unable to find TDK disks on Amazon that were sold at the same price point I was accustomed to paying, and more importantly, because TDK DVD-R disks were just unavailable from virtually any vendor. It seems that TDK is no longer manufacturing these disks, and those that are available are being sold at an added premium. With some trepidation, I sought a reliable alternative to TDK because no one wants to be using unreliable optical disks to archive computer data or to store precious photos and video files. I mention these facts because of several failures of SONY DVD-R disks I used for these purposes. After reading Amazon reviews and taking into consideration Verbatim's excellent reputation, I chose to use these and have been happy ever since. Why? No disk failures!Based on my experience, I recommend use of this brand to meet most archival storage needs. 5Poor quality - will not play back on computer dvd drive I have used Verbatim DVD-R discs in the past and had no problems. I was able to record on them using my TV dvd player and play them back on my computer dvd drive. But I ordered these Verbatim discs recently from Amazon and they would not play back on my computer dvd drive. The computer dvd drive can't read them and spits them out. As a test, to make sure it was not a problem with the computer dvd drive, I recorded on a Verbatim DVD-R disc that I had purchased in the past and it played back perfectly on my computer. I wish that I had checked the reviews before I ordered them because I see that other people had the same problem. It is too bad because Verbatim discs used to be a good product. I am returning these for a refund. 1Out of 400 discs, close to 70 were BAD I have used hundreds of DVD-Rs, including the Verbatim brand, with great results. Out of the 400 Verbatim DVD-Rs, which I purchased in 2018 from Amazon, close to 70 were BAD. Using 2 different computers, the drives rejected some right away, rejected some part way through the recording process and some were not able to be read after burning. These discs are identified by "AZO" on the packaging. This does not appear on the discs themselves. Because of their "Lifetime" warranty, I contacted Verbatim and they seemed willing to help. Because of this, I never contacted Amazon about them. Verbatim asked me for a total of the bad discs and by the time I had gone through the 400, is way too late for Amazon to do anything about them. I emailed Verbatim the total a couple of times and I never heard back. I found around 50 Verbatim DVD-Rs which I had purchased a couple of years ago and didn't have one problem disc. A few months ago, I purchased a stack of 100 "Amazon Basics" DVD-Rs and haven't had a problem with the 50 or so I have used. I know some other people who have had the same problems as I have with the "AZO" Verbatim DVD-Rs. I would advise people to not buy these discs until Verbatim acknowledges and fixes their problems. 1Works 100% of the time for me, folks - but you have to follow one simple rule... Yes, the packaging states you can burn up to 16X, and if you're in a rush, I guess you need to push the envelope. But - if you just slow down and burn at the slowest available speed (2X is the lowest option I have) you'll find an amazing success rate. I shoot video for local high school musical productions and have to burn 60-80 discs per show. Using my 2008 (yes, you read that correctly) iMac, my failure rate is zero. Pretty incredible in my opinion. I'm using Burn software (free) and the video programs are approx. 117 minutes long, so it's a full disc. At 2X I'm still cranking 'em out at 1 copy per 20 minutes. Worth the wait, as I've never had a single self-tested reject - or a reject from a paying customer. In my opinion, great, reliable and reasonably priced media. Hope this helps! 5Great Product. Great Price. Overview: This brand has been consistently reliable. I have various CD/DVD burners and DVD Players. They work in all of them.Pros: These are inexpensive. You can buy a lot for a reasonable price.Cons: They do not hold as much data as BluRay. So if you are looking to store massive amounts of data, Single layer DVDs hold 4.7 GB. This product is single layer. Dual Layers hold double that. BluRays can hold multiple times those amounts (But you would need a BluRay burner.Functionality: It is important to take note that there are two different types of Write-able DVDs "+R" and "-R". Nowadays, most DVD players are compatible with both. However, it is important to confirm that your player works with these before purchasing.Durability: DVDs are more susceptible to scratching than BluRays are, but these have not given me any problems with regard to scratching.Customer Service: N/A 5In Limbo with these junk discs.... Terrible quality, you can even see the bumps on the bottom of the bad discs. It's the kind of thing I'm used to with low grade store brands. Not Verbatim. The Verbatim are MCC discs. I always verify my discs after a burn. I highly suggest if you risk buying these, make sure you verify your burns. Because these discs DO burn and complete. They did for me but they fail the verification step. If you fail the verification step, it's a bad disc that will skip. What's more amazing is that the last third of the discs, is where all the problem discs are. So after burning 2/3rds with success. Now I run into problems. How do I return 17 discs out of 50?There were also errors such as dark lines from the outside in. Which is all stuff you see in low quality discs that have bad batches. This isn't the Verbatim of quality that some may assume. This is garbage. Stay away from these and if you want to ignore what I say. At least verify your discs or you'll be sitting on a pile of bad burns and you won't even know it.P.S. For what it's worth, my successful burns (that verify as good) still get a quality rating of 0 out of 100 in Nero's DiscSpeed "Disc Quality" test. Which means, even if you get a good burn. It may not last. They may be prone to decay quicker. Not bad now but as time goes by, they will become unusable or skip. 1Will never use them again I have used Verbatim discs for a long time with no problems at all. But this time with the 100 pack so far I have had 21 discs that have been defective and I am not finished with them all yet. Needless to say I will not use Verbatim again. I sent a message to Verbatim in their support and never even heard from them. 1Have relied on these discs for years, but quality has been extremely spotty lately I have been buying these discs for years now as my brother has always told me they were the best quality for the price. I have received many bad batches lately, though. I am only able to record a few minutes or at most 30 mins. or only an hour. Sometimes they aren t bad until you reach the bottom of the pack. Other times, like recently it s every single one, one after another, right from the beginning of the pack. I can actually see that some of them are bad before using them. You can see the disc layers are not formed properly. Ordinarily, they work very well, but when Amazon gets bad batches, forget using these. It seems to be happening a few times a year for about the last 3 years. I ve had to keep returning them.I just returned 3 packs at once, but luckily my latest pack seems much better and more like the quality you normally expect from these.* I just wanted to update this review to say that I have since bought two more used DVD recorders that record with both DVD-R and DVD+R just so I don't have to fool with these DVD-R discs anymore. My newest DVD recorder would only record with DVD-Rs so I was stuck buying these for several years. It is so much less frustrating to be able to use the DVD+R discs if you are able to use that format. They come in the purple packaging and work like the Verbatim brand is known for. 2Faulty Disk's I have never had a issue with verbatim DVD-R and had purchased them for years. However this time I was using this 50 pack and they worked fine until I got down to the last 20 or so and for some reason they would not 'Finalize' after recording. They recorded fine but would not finalize. So I tried the next one and the next one, same thing. I thought something was wrong with my dvd recorder and was going to replace it but decided to get another brand of blank dvd's. They have worked fine ever since. The only thing I can think happened is something faulted during production of the 'Verbatim's'. I wonder if anyone has had the same issue recently. 1
