Don't order these through subscribe and save I have always liked verbatim and have been using them for years in my dvr. I was thrilled when I was able to get them regularly with my subscribe and save order. But the last two months I've been getting sub quality discs through subscribe and save. I don't know why but at least half couldn't initially be formatted and I had to use another device . Of those at least a quarter couldn't be used to full capacity. They also don't appear to be able to be reused as often, but it's too early to see how bad that issue will be. I don't recommend getting these through subscribe and save. I've since tried ordering them separately and will amend this review if I have the same problem. 3The best disks on the planet The best disks on the planet!!! Out of over a thousand disks, I got one flawed disk! Compared to many famous brands that usually have one or two flawed disks out of ten, I cannot say enough about this brand!!! I work in film and music and never even think of using a differernt brand! If Verbatim wants to use my words of praise I give my permission without reservation! The delivery was right on time too!!! I adore this brand and would cry if they went away! You work ten hours on a disk, if it fails, you'd cry too! 5Could be a good deal, could suck, "you be the judge, jury, & executioner". Arrived on time in perfect shape (ie. package undamaged). I wanted to keep item for back up "clean pristine discs" however the suspense got the better of me as I have been wondering whenever I look at the item whether if functions. To my horror when I opened the package & looked at the disc surface on the outer edges of many of them have little scratches (most have a little of this but several have a lot: 1/2 inch track) as if when they were taken out of whatever machine that made them that it some how scratched them. I had some damaged discs before & these looked somewhat similar. This is ridiculous & don't know how this made it past quality control after all the accolades I have heard about Verbatim discs. Anyway, to my surprise, upon testing (tested 2), one with most scratches (on top) and other with few scratches (nearer to bottom of discs), they both seemed to test OK after scouring for test indicators of good discs. The main thing was that all sectors tested good & the burn of data of a full disk took about 15 - 16 minutes & good disks are supposed to take about 14 - 16 minutes to write a good disk. I was shocked to say the least that they passed & did as well as could be expected (actually wrote at only 3.8x speed which is .2 lower than it should be). I am still teetering on the 2, maybe even 1 star rating for this but that is to be seen as these could denigrate very fast in the future as these "so called scratches" could be more serious, but hopefully not. I think they will be OK as most these get a bunch of scratches, over time, & still function but only time will tell. If you are some sort of "DVD stickler" where everything has to be perfect and go your own little way then this deal might not be right for you! I have bought multitudes of these discs & have never, ever had any have scratches with them when coming in new out of the box so this was weird & heart wrenching. I am assuming we are in the period of time where by CD's & DVD's are going extinct & makers are thus deliberately making them sloppily in an effort to "usher in new technology & forgetting about the old technology they are supposed to be making" as we have gone through this routine a zillion times already & without regard for the purchaser or their financial status: "we have had enough of this one"! I probably would try this one again, but very warily, & if I was not forcing myself not to test them (due to scratches getting on them by just breathing on them which I did not want as using only as a backup & tried not to open) I would have sent them back but its past Amazon.com return window. I have attached tests of the 2 discs as images so you be the judge, etc.. Nero's disc speed was used to test them & is highly recommendable for this purpose as it is an advanced tester. 4Won't Do Both I normally use Maxell, but decided to try Verbatim because they were on sale. I brought these to record my local news on, using a Toshiba DVD recorder. Then watch back on my Dell laptop. If I format the disc on the DVD recorder it won't work on the laptop. If I format the disc on the laptop it won't work on the DVD recorder. I've used Maxell re-writable discs for yrs and never had this problem. Their discs work on my DVD recorder and laptop. 3One of the Best This review applies only to data storage and not video. In fact, DVD+RW is more suitable for data storage. For video application, DVD-RW is more suitable. I have been using this writing surface for data storage for the past three months. The reason I refrained from writing a review for this product sooner is due to my very bad experience with Memorex 16X-24X CD-RW in which all recorded data( 15 discs in all, ie 15 out of 15 ) would become unrecognizable within a few weeks. The Verbatim DVD+RW is a reliable surface. So far I have not had a coaster, or encountered writing error during burning, or unexpected loss of recorded data. Some discs I have rewritten 10 times over while others I have appended new data to without erasing existing data on the disc, and the most important fact is the data stays and has not become corrupted. I highly recommend this disc for data storage because of its reliability. The price of this disc is slightly on the high side though. On a price per disc basis, the 30-disc spindle is more economical compared to the 10-disc pack and may be a better choice if one ever needs that many 4.7GB discs. 5Great DVDs and Great Price on Amazon!! I have been using these exact dvds to move things that I previously recorded on vhs tapes for about 3 years. I recorded shows, and several TV series, from our TV originally on vhs tapes (when that was the best way to record things). I also have been moving our family photos and events from their original recorded media over to these dvds. I then send what I have moved to the rest of my family. I am moving previously recorded shows, TV series, photos and events because I have noticed that the original media that they were recorded on are having problems. In order to preserve everything, I started to move them over to these dvds.I have NEVER had ANY problems with these dvds. They do EXACTLY what they are supposed to do. I will not purchase ANY other dvds as long as these are available. Also, if you want to buy more than 10 dvds at a time, the 30 pack spindles are definitely a better price. As sometimes these dvds are hard to find, I have hopefully bought the amount that I will need for the next few years. In my research, Amazon has the best price, especially when you buy them directly from Amazon and can take advantage of their free Prime 2 day shipping. 5Great product, great price. I have ordered these in the past and they are very good DVD's. I use them to record shows, to watch later, and then can record over them.Great product, would definitely recommend them. 5Initial quality is good. Doesn't play on some devices. Summary:These discs were used to make copies of a family video for friends and family. The discs were easy to write to from my Dell desktop. The discs also played back appropriately. However, when they were distributed not everyone was able to play the discs.Pros:1) initial quality of blank discs are good.2) Video playback was good on original writing device.Cons:1) Difficult playback on some devices after written.Suggestion:1) These discs are good for personal use, unoredictable for other uses. 3This is an excellent product - hope that I can still get it or a worthy substitute When I saw that Verbatim had discontinued this product, I was surprised and a bit upset. The "end of rewriteable DVDs" is near?I had heard that "the cloud", a dubious name for a humongous server farms at different places on the Internet, and flash drivesof massive capacities would replace these DVDs, and I was skeptical but the dumbest users of technologies are often the largest numbers and they can make an obviously good product go away. That is why I ordered this product (I have ordered it many times before). The type packed without jewel cases have a higher error rate because the surface is not protected in storage. Perhaps I can continue to find this product across a variety of sellers or with this seller. (Re)writable DVDs are NOT over. 5Change in formulation? No longer works in my DVR I have a MDR Memorex (Funai) DVR/HDD device. It runs every evening while I am at work these days, since the news is so very historic. My unit became very finicky with the +RWs I have been using (4 out of 30 still format and work fine- also Verbatim). So, I ordered this 30 disk pack. I had used this brand before. Every single one was a coaster - worthless, Caveat emptor,I will just use +R disks and archive them for posterity! 1
